The Rostok kin's settlement is located in the very center of the Rostov Region among picturesque rocky hills along the Kundryuchey River, where large tracts of the steppe untouched by human activity have been preserved.
The settlement was founded in the spring of 2002, when a group of enthusiasts moved permanently from the city of Taganrog to the Dubovoi farm. Active construction began in 2006 on lands near the farm.
The Rostok settlement is famous for its various clay houses of unusual shapes and free training and construction events that attract many guests from all regions of Russia and far abroad. The settlers seek to share the accumulated experience of building and arranging life on the kin's domain. The guests have an opportunity to touch a new lifestyle and to live on the territory of the settlement.
To date, the settlement has 27 hectares in pssession and 17 families live permanently. The settlement is replenished with young couples, children are born here. Fruit gardens are already bearing fruits and green fences are growing.
A new district has been opened in the settlement, called "Medveditsa", that is located nearby. The heart of the settlement and its main focus is the school. It was built in 2010 and opened with a big festival that has became a tradition. Creative and general education classes are conducted by the settlers themselves, each parent is a teacher.
"Rostok" means sprout or seedling in Russian. Thus, the Rostok is growing and studying with its children.
