Village of Zelenchukskaya

Winter in the Ecovillage

Greetings!

We are creating an ecovillage on the basis of Kin's Domains very close to the village of Zelenchukskaya in the Karachaevo-Cherkesskaya Republic.

What there is:

The nucleus of our action committee (six families) is living in the village of Zelenchuksaya in the Karachaevo-Cherkesskaya Republic.

Three adjoining parcels with a total area of 82 hectares have been registered as the property of one of the organizers. Category: agricultural-purpose lands; permitted use: for country home construction.

The Smaglinka Nonprofit Country-Home Partnership has been registered.

What remains to be done:
1) register the change in the permitted use in the land surveying office (the documents have been filed);
2) combine the three adjoining parcels into one (this will reduce subsequent expenditures for State duties);
3) register the changes in the registry office;
4) transfer the land to the ownership of the Nonprofit Country-Home Partnership;
5) do a topographical survey and prepare a "plan for organization and development" of the country-home settlement;
6) have the "plan for organization and development" of the country-home settlement approved by the village administration, fire department, etc.

After the plan has been approved, houses can be built.

We shall begin to build, plant, and live on the land of the eco-village following the completion of the legal registration providing the opportunity for construction.

You can join our group, we need you! Before the first settlers move to their estates, all you have to do is join the settlement organization.

Kin's Domains in Ukraine

A project of the Liberal Democratic Party of Ukraine

"Where does your Homeland begin?"

The word "Homeland" long ago lost its original meaning for people. And, first and foremost, because of the lack of the sense of something one's own, native, close -- that which always remains the most sacred, a Homeland that you want to love, care for, and honour. The present generation -- which grew up within the concrete walls of high-rise buildings, far from the wisdom of nature, their thoughts depleted by the modern way of life, with a lost sensation of a Homeland -- has the opportunity to re-examine the basic principles of life.

The basic idea of the "Kin's Domains in Ukraine" project is to provide all inhabitants of Ukraine with their own parcel of land, one hectare in size, a place where they can create their own little Homeland, an oasis of beauty and harmony. The fundamental task of persons who have received their land is to develop a new relationship to the land, nature, their family, their clan, and their native land.
In their interaction with the land and nature, in an atmosphere of love and harmony, people will find long forgotten feelings of patriotism, love for their native land, and the desire to regenerate their Ukraine and change it for the better.

A multitude of family breakups, low morality, and the population crisis in the country demand new, high-quality changes in the development of the thinking of its citizens. The idea of Kin's Domains is one of the best ways out of the situation in question. Families founded in love and harmony, who bring up their children on the abundant land of their Kin's Domain, will provide the stimulus for the development of a completely new relationship to the family, children, one's clan, and all the Ukrainian people.

The new interaction with the land will make it possible to avoid a barbaric relationship to the land resources of Ukraine, poisoning with pesticides, and the destruction of natural resources, and will provide the opportunity to renew and enhance the natural riches of the country.

Several dozen Kin's Domains can acquire the status of a Kin's Settlement, with its own school, nursery school, and social centre.

The idea of each family in Ukraine creating its own Kin's Domain represents the opportunity to return to one's origins, to a connection with nature, and therefore to a new quality of life for each person individually and for society as a whole.

The development of a personality begins with its contact with the surrounding world. People are the foundation of the state. The self-sufficient, integrated, healthy, and spiritually strong children of Ukraine who grow up on Kin's Domains will form a mighty nation, able to defend the interests of their country -- Ukraine -- justly, boldly, and responsibly.

The creation of Kin's Domains completely guarantees the basic principles of the Constitution of Ukraine, pursuant to which each citizen of Ukraine has the right to a dwelling, a favourable external environment, proper nutrition, private property, the free choice of one's field of work, the free development of one's personality, and free choice of one's place of residence.

The idea of Kin's Domains is a national programme directed toward the renewal, development, and regeneration of the Ukrainian nation on the Ukrainian land.

Namaste

I have been feeling a need to plant my own kin domain for quite some time, its just that I haven't found it yet. So, I have built a tent trailer that I pull behind my three wheel cargo bike and live out of it. I have even given up jobs that were harming me, because I was just doing them for the money. They weren't soul satisfying. I am planning a trip to the ancient cedar rainforest in June. It's near Dome Creek,BC and I am meant to share love with the trees and recieve what they have to share with me. I feel that I will meet my soulmate somewhere along the trip.

I must say this to anyone who reads, connect with your heart for it will guide you wherever you are meant to be and withwhom you are meant to be with. Trust, Trust Trust in your heart for it knows the way.

Much love

A Spectacular Home Birth!

Watch Video: A Spectacular Home Birth
This video may not be suitable for minors.

The mother from the vdieo shares her thoughts on natural childbirth:

This is the birth of my third child, Sage Darian on Christmas morning (the other two were also homebirths, vids in the way!)

My midwife, Susan Lees, delivered all my babies and her presence during my Christmas Eve labour and Christmas Morning birth was awe-inspiring. Thank you, Sue!!!!

No mother would ever put her unborn child at risk.
As a homebirther of 3 myself, it was imperative to me that my pregnancies were monitored very closely by my midwife and my OB. Only once all physical birthing conditions were right and we were all confident that the births would run smoothly, did we finalise our decisions to homebirth.

Once labour commences, the midwife is called and she in turn calls the OB to put him or her on stand by. Initial communication with the midwife is telephonic until such time that you feel you need to have her there. For some people it's in the early stages of labour, for some it's later. That is entirely a personal choice.

Throughout the labour the midwife is doing cervical checks and monitors the heartrate of the baby with a doppler RELIGIOUSLY. If the midwife AT ANY STAGE feels that you are not dilating and that in turn could place stress on the foetus, then she will call the OB and tell him/her that you are on the way to the hospital STILL IN EARLY STAGES OF LABOUR BEFORE THE BABY IS IN DISTRESS. This often ends in a C-section if the mother was not dilating.

Back to homebirths: Once you are 10cm dilated, and the baby is on the way down, there is no turning back. A C-Section (hospital) is no longer an option. The baby is now in the birth canal and it is now you and your primitive instinct that is going to push this baby out. Your body knows EXACTLY what it needs to do (even if your mind doesn't) and once again the baby's heart rate is monitored closely.

The birthing position is also one of personal choice. The body adopts a position it feels most comfortable in.
The midwife at hand (all midwive's are registered nurses and have done many many hours in labour wards)has all the necessary equipment with her should she need to intervene with the birth. Some midwive's at homebirths also have another midwife to assist them.

All instruments etc are sterilised in the same manner in which they would be in a hospital and NOTHING is left to chance. We choose to birth our children at home, not because we are ANTI-DOCTOR, stubborn and stupid, we choose to birth them at home because it is very important to us that our children arrive onto this planet NATURALLY as intended, into an environment that is calm and overflowing with love.

The labour process is also one that requires TREMENDOUS focus and will power, so you should be in an environment where you feel most comfortable and at ease. For some this is a hospital and for some it is at home, surrounded by one's loved ones.

"In a sincere effort to catch complications early and produce healthier babies, medical science has changed the atmosphere surrounding birth from one of a circle of loving support around laboring women to one of space age technology in a laboratory setting.

Though technology can save lives in a crisis, the routine use of technology can interfere with the normal birth process"

Hospitals are for people who are very ill, why would you want to birth your precious child into an environment like that if you don't have to ??

Are Doctors Causing Infant Brain Damage by Clamping the Umbilical Cord Prematurely?

Newborn lungs exist in a "compacted state" suitable for the womb. When the infant is born, the placenta and cord pulse for up to 20 minutes, delivering a burst of blood volume to the infant's system. This blood burst is just what is needed for the lungs of the newborn to expand.

Unfortunately, many hospitals and doctors don't understand the mechanics of this and are engaging in early umbilical cord clamping -- often within one minute of birth.

Without the burst of blood from the placenta, the infant suffers a drop in blood pressure as its lungs fail to open as they should, creating a chain reaction of effects that can include brain damage and lung damage. Immediate cord clamping can cause hypotension, hypovolemia and infant anemia, resulting in cognitive deficits. Some have even theorized that the rise in autism could be linked at least in part to early cord clamping.

When a baby is born, one of the first procedures performed is the clamping and cutting of the umbilical cord. In hospitals, this task is often done before 30 seconds have elapsed because it's believed it will reduce the mother's risk of excess bleeding and the baby's risk of jaundice.

Very often cords are clamped early also to collect cord blood and cord stem cells to be used for various medical and commercial purposes.

However, research is increasingly revealing that clamping the umbilical cord prematurely, before two or even three full minutes have elapsed, robs your baby of much-needed blood and oxygen.

Today there is absolutely no consensus about the optimal time to clamp the umbilical cord after birth, yet over 200 years ago in 1801, Erasmus Darwin (Charles Darwin's grandfather) shared some wise words on the topic that have been largely overlooked:

"Another thing very injurious to the child, is the tying and cutting of the navel string too soon; which should always be left till the child has not only repeatedly breathed but till all pulsation in the cord ceases.

As otherwise the child is much weaker than it ought to be, a portion of the blood being left in the placenta, which ought to have been in the child."

Suffocating Baby at Birth?

One of the primary arguments for delaying cord clamping has to do with the way a baby breathes just before and after being born.

Before birth, the baby's lungs are filled with fluid and very little blood flows through them; the child receives oxygen from its mother through the placenta and cord. This placental oxygen supply continues after the child is born until the lungs are working and supplying oxygen -- that is, when they are filled with air and all the blood from the right side of the heart is flowing through them.

After birth, when the child is crying and pink, the cord vessels clamp themselves. During this interval between birth and natural clamping, blood is transfused from the placenta to establish blood flow through the baby's lungs. The natural process protects the baby's brain by providing a continuous oxygen supply from two sources until the second source is functioning well.

However, according to George M. Morley, M.B., Ch. B., FACOG of Cordclamping.com, immediate cord clamping at birth instantly cuts off the placental oxygen supply and the baby remains asphyxiated until the lungs function. Blood, which normally would have been transfused to establish the child's lung circulation, remains clamped in the placenta, and the child diverts blood from all other organs to fill the lung blood vessels.

While most full-term babies have enough blood to establish lung function and prevent brain damage, the process often leaves them pale and weak. For premature babies, the process can be even more devastating. And no matter what, immediate cord clamping will cause some degree of asphyxia and loss of blood volume because it:

1. Completely cuts off the infant brain's oxygen supply from the placenta before lungs begin to function.

2. Stops placental transfusion -- the transfer of a large volume of blood (up to 50% increase in total blood volume) that is used mainly to establish circulation through the baby's lungs to start them functioning.

Injuries Related to Immediate Cord Clamping

Keeping valuable oxygen and blood from an infant by clamping the umbilical cord prematurely increases the baby's risk of brain hemorrhage and breathing problems. It has also been implicated as a contributing factor to:

- Autism
- Cerebral Palsy
- Anemia
- Learning disorders and mental deficiency
- Behavioral disorders
- Respiratory distress

Immediate cord clamping has even been identified as causing brain injuries that lead to death, according to Morley.

Are You Seeking Natural Childbirth Options?

Given the overwhelming research about the potential harms of early cord clamping, both the World Health Organization and the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) have dropped the practice from their guidelines.

But it is still widely done in the United States and other developed countries, especially if you give birth in a hospital with an obstetrician (specially trained surgeons). This is one of many reasons why you may want to consider having a midwife deliver your baby instead.

There is not a single report in the scientific literature that shows obstetricians to be safer than midwives for low risk or normal pregnancy and birth. So if you are among the more than 75 percent of all women with a normal pregnancy, the safest birth attendant for you and your baby is in fact not a doctor but a midwife or doula.

A midwife will be more accommodating to your wishes, such as waiting for two to three minutes, or until the umbilical cord has stopped pulsating, before it is cut. Caesarean rates and use of other drug and surgical interventions also tend to be lower when you use a midwife.

One study in the British Medical Journal even found that a woman's risk of death during delivery is three to five times higher during caesarean than a natural delivery, her risk of hysterectomy four times higher, and her risk of being admitted to intensive care is two times higher.

A Big Fat Fib: Low-Fat is Not the Answer

by: Elizabeth Walling, citizen journalist

It all started a few decades ago, when well-known health experts began recommending that people eliminate fat from their diets. A lot of people jumped on the no-fat train because some studies at the time seemed to point to fat as the villain of our modern diet. It soon became obvious to health professionals that completely eliminating fat was not any kind of solution. First of all, most people couldn`t stay on this type of extreme diet for any length of time. Secondly, health problems like cancer, infection, fatigue and depression ran rampant when fat was eliminated.

So over time we have seen a steady trend reintroducing the idea that fats can be a part of a healthy diet. It seems that every few years medical experts slightly raise the recommended amount of fat one should consume. It`s been happening so slowly it`s almost indiscernible, but if you look closely, low-fat diets are no longer in style.

Even so, many people are still under the impression that a low-fat diet is healthy, and most people believe cutting out fat is still the best way to lose weight. This is a popular misconception that makes sense on the surface, but when you dig a little deeper the concept begins to unravel.

First, it`s important to look at what the body actually does when you go on a low-fat diet. The most common belief is when you stop eating fat, your body will burn its own fat for energy. In reality what really happens is a little more complicated. Here are some common results of a low fat diet:

- People who drastically lower their fat intake generally increase their carbohydrate intake.

- Even complex carbohydrates can cause a rise in blood sugar and insulin levels, especially when they aren`t consumed with adequate protein and fat.

- With this sudden influx of excess carbohydrates, there is simply too much sugar in the blood to be used for energy. The rest is converted into fat and cholesterol.

- Without adequate fat and protein in the diet (which is common during a low-fat diet), the body is forced to break down lean body mass to use the nutrients it needs to function. This includes muscle and bone mass.

- Losing lean body mass shows up as drastic weight loss on the scale at first, which may thrill the dieter, but over time the body uses less energy because of the loss of muscle. Combined with excess fat storage because of high insulin levels, eventually weight loss on a low-fat diet is almost impossible and you may even start to gain weight.

Moreover, a low-fat diet can be downright harmful to your body, especially in the long-term. High insulin levels and the breakdown of lean body mass are not healthy. Over time, these factors can cause serious hormone imbalances and can even contribute to health problems like diabetes and heart disease. Cutting out fat is merely swinging the pendulum to another extreme that will have negative side effects.

A 2008 report in the New England Journal of Medicine may interest dieters who think low-fat is the answer. The report showed the results of a study which compared the effectiveness of low-fat, low-carb and Mediterranean diets. The study was partially funded by the Dr. Robert C. and Veronica Atkins Foundation (which is not to be confused with the commercial venue of Atkins Nutritionals Inc.). There were 322 participants in the study, all of whom were moderately obese. One of the three diets was randomly assigned to each person.

Study participants on the low-fat and Mediterranean diets had moderate calorie restrictions, while those on the low-carb diet did not have any. Overall, the low-fat diet had the least effect on both weight loss and cholesterol profiles, while the low-carb diet was most effective (the Mediterranean diet was a close second). It should be noted the low-carb dieters were consuming about 120 grams of carbs per day, which is a more balanced approach compared to extreme low-carb diets of yesteryear.

So, it begs the question, is fat really all that bad? Well, that`s a loaded question if there ever was one. In our society fats can be good or bad, depending on the source and how they`re prepared. Processed fats that have been exposed to heat, light and air can be rancid and oxidized. Polyunsaturated oils like soybean, canola and corn oil are most susceptible to damage. These damaged oils are linked with many health problems such as cancer, premature aging and degenerative diseases like Alzheimer`s. Then we have oils that have been purposely altered like hydrogenated oils. These are chock full of trans fat, which is known to sharply increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and many types of cancer. These types of over-processed, damaged fats should be avoided as much as possible.

Instead, if we are supposed to increase our fat intake, it should be with healthy, unprocessed fats from as natural a source as possible. Organic fats are best, since harmful chemicals and hormones tend to be stored in fat.

Again, what we are really looking at here is a balance of nutrition. The body utilizes carbohydrates, proteins and fats. Cutting out any one of these nutrients is a mistake. To achieve optimum health, the best thing you can do is eat a diet consisting mostly of natural, unprocessed foods with an overall balance of fat, protein and carbohydrates.

Blueberries Reduce Belly Fat and Diabetes Risk

Eating blueberries could help you get rid of belly fat, and a blueberry-enriched diet could stem the conditions that lead to diabetes.

New research gives tantalizing clues to the potential of blueberries in reducing risk factors for cardiovascular disease and metabolic syndrome. The effect is thought to be due to the high level of naturally occurring antioxidants called phytochemicals contained in blueberries.

Researchers studied the effect blueberries had when added to the diet of rats. After 90 days, rats that received a blueberry-enriched diet had less abdominal fat, lower triglycerides, lower cholesterol, and improved fasting glucose and insulin sensitivity.

http://www.naturalnews.com/

Dr. Mercola's Comments:

The benefits of eating fruits and vegetables are undisputed, but modern research keeps showing us just how they help you to optimize your health.

Berries are some of the most nutritious foods on the planet. In the case of blueberries, naturally occurring phytochemicals such as anthocyanins can do wonders to normalize and improve your health. And berries, in general, are also high in fiber and relatively low in sugar, so they won't stimulate severe insulin swings if eaten in moderation.

Berries are best eaten in their raw, natural state, as heating and freezing can damage antioxidants. However, some antioxidants will remain even after heating or freezing.

The Blue Wonder Berry

Blueberries contain vitamins A and C, zinc, potassium, iron, calcium and magnesium, and are high in fiber and low in calories. Additionally, researchers at the USDA Human Nutrition Center (HNRCA) have ranked blueberries number one in antioxidant activity when compared to 40 other fresh fruits and vegetables, so there are many reasons for adding blueberries to your diet.

They are associated with numerous health benefits, including natural protection against:

  • Urinary-tract infections
  • Cancer
  • Age-related brain conditions and disorders
  • Brain damage from stroke

And, according to the latest research presented in the article above, blueberries may also offer protection against metabolic syndrome (which can lead to diabetes), the accumulation of abdominal fat, and reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease.

These findings strengthen previous discoveries of the berry's powerful impact on cardiovascular health.

Because in addition to anthocyanin - which gives the berry its deep blue color -- blueberries also contain an antioxidant compound called pterostilbene, which has been found to reduce cholesterol as well as prescription drugs. (It shares similar qualities to another cholesterol-reducing antioxidant, resveratrol, which is found in both grapes and red wine.)

As an interesting side note, another unusual way to benefit from blueberries is to add them to your ground beef before cooking (ideally at low temperatures) as they help prevent cancer-causing heterocyclic amines (HCA) from forming in the meat.

How Blueberries Protect Against Metabolic Syndrome

Metabolic syndrome -- also sometimes referred to as pre-diabetes -- is a conglomerate of health problems that include high amounts of abdominal fat, high blood pressure, elevated blood sugar, and high triglycerides. When combined, these conditions increase your risk of cardiovascular disease, heart attacks, strokes and diabetes.

In this latest study, rats that consumed blueberry-enriched powder as two percent of their diet had less abdominal fat, lower triglycerides, lower cholesterol, and improved fasting glucose and insulin sensitivity after 90 days, compared to the control group.

Additionally, they found that blueberry intake affected genes related to fat-burning and storage. And when they looked at muscle tissue, they saw alterations in genes related to glucose uptake.

This is interesting as another recent study concluded that metabolic syndrome is likely not caused primarily by abdominal fat, as previously thought, but rather by insulin resistance in your skeletal muscle, which leads to changes in energy storage - which in turn leads to metabolic syndrome.

Insulin resistance is clearly a key factor in metabolic syndrome, and as I've stated on countless occasions, the prescription for insulin resistance is diet and exercise.

It's good to know that eating something as delicious as blueberries can actually help improve your insulin sensitivity.

The Two Best Prescriptions Against Belly Fat and Diabetes

Exercise is your number one ally here, both for shedding unwanted body fat and normalizing your insulin levels.

It can also help you sleep better, which turns out to be another important factor if you want to avoid excess pounds around your midsection. In my recent article 4 Ways to Shed Belly Fat, I explain the little-known connection between your sleeping habits and your body's ability to shed abdominal fat.

Keep in mind that when you're exercising to achieve weight loss, you'll want to focus on weight bearing exercises, as muscle burns calories quite efficiently. In my experience, non-weight bearing exercises, like swimming and bicycling, are not as efficient or effective for weight loss. You'll typically need to exercise four times as long in these activities to receive the same benefit of running or using an elliptical machine, or performing other aerobic activities.

And, to really maximize your weight loss efforts, make sure you include high-intensity interval exercises and strength training in your program.

When it comes to diet, you'll clearly want to stay away from any foods that raise your insulin levels, namely grains and sugars, and of course, processed foods.

But in addition to that, perhaps the most effective way of making sure you're eating the optimal diet for you is to determine your specific nutritional type. Because what's healthy for others may not necessarily be healthy for you, and vice-versa.

When battling either belly fat or diabetes - or both -- remember that controlling your insulin levels is as important to optimizing your weight as it is to protecting you against diseases like diabetes.

Because as your insulin levels increase, your body starts to store carbohydrates as fat while at the same time not releasing stored fat. This makes it impossible for you to use your own stored body fat for energy. So excess refined and processed carbohydrates in your diet (such as breads and pasta) not only make you gain weight, they make sure you keep that weight on.

By cutting grains and sugars from your diet, combined with a regular exercise program, you can significantly improve your chances of successful weight loss, and effectively protect yourself against diabetes and a whole host of other diseases.

Music can Restore Vision after Stroke

by: Sherry Baker

Natural health doesn't only encompass exercise and nutrition. A new study by UK scientists from Imperial College London, the University of Birmingham and other institutions just published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Science demonstrates sound can be used to facilitate healing. By listening to their favorite music, stroke patients with impaired vision were able to see better.

According to the American Heart Association, stroke is a leading cause of serious, long-term disability in the United States and around 60 percent of stroke patients have impaired visual awareness. A type of stroke-related vision problem called "visual neglect" is caused by damage to parts of the brain that control vision, attention and action. The result of visual neglect is a loss of awareness of objects in the side of space opposite to the side of the brain that was injured. For instance, if a stroke occurs in the right hemisphere of the brain, a person tends to lose awareness of visual information in the left side of space.

"Visual neglect can be a very distressing condition for stroke patients. It has a big effect on their day-to-day lives. For example, in extreme cases, patients with visual neglect may eat only the food on the right side of their plate, or shave only half of their face, thus failing to react to certain objects in the environment," Dr. David Soto, the lead author of the study from the Division of Neurosciences and Mental Health at Imperial College London, said in a statement to media.

Researchers studied three patients who had lost awareness of half of their field of vision as a result of a stroke. The research subjects completed tasks while listening to their favorite music, while listening to music they didn't like at all, and in silence. The result? All three were able to identify shapes and red lights in their stroke-impaired side of vision much more accurately while they were listening to music they liked than while listening to music they didn't like or while performing the tasks in silence.

For part of the research, patients were told to press a button when they saw a red light. One research subject could point out the light in 65 percent of cases while he was listening to favorite music, but he only perceived the light 15 percent of the time when there was no music or music he didn't like was played.

What caused the improvement in visual awareness seen in these patients? The researchers think it could be a result of the research subjects experiencing positive emotions when listening to favorite music. The scientists looked at functional MRI scans to see how the patients' brains functioned during the different tasks. They found that when tasks were performed to pleasant music, areas in the brain linked to positive emotional responses from stimuli were activated. At the same time, the patients' awareness of the visual world was improved.

"We wanted to see if music would improve visual awareness in these patients by influencing the individual's emotional state. Our results are very promising, although we would like to look at a much larger group of patients with visual neglect and with other neuropsychological impairments. Our findings suggest that we should think more carefully about the individual emotional factors in patients with visual neglect and in other neurological patients following a stroke," Dr. Soto stated in the press release. "Music appears to improve awareness because of its positive emotional effect on the patient, so similar beneficial effects may also be gained by making the patient happy in other ways. This is something we are keen to investigate further."

Good Soil

The simple truth is that one cannot grow much, and then only with great trouble and expense, in poor soil. And we certainly don't want that. The other simple truth is that one can grow almost anything, with very little effort and expense, in beautiful, rich and fertile loam. All one basically needs to do is seed or plant things, water occasionally, and then stand back and let them grow. And that's far more like it, right? Well, that's exactly what we are going to do here. Really.

Obviously, and since good soil determines 99% of your success, we'll start with this, and January is a good time as any hereabouts to get things going in that direction. And although rich and fertile soil is a highly and intricately complex thing, we don't have to worry about that at all. Mother Nature has fine tuned these things it to a "T" hundreds of millions of years ago, and all we have to do is to provide the basic conditions, and good ole' Nature will do the rest, and with enthusiastic zest.

All we need is good soil, good drainage, all the 72+ trace elements, and to balance the soil. We also need to keep the poisons out of the intricate womb of the Earth under our feet, because good soil - what is commonly called "black gold", and rightly so - includes a whole teeming and intricately complex fabric of soil biota, from vitally important fungi (mycorrhyzal fungi), to vast armies of equally vitaly important bacteria (all the various nitrogen fixers), and hordes of those tireless and hard working soil improvers, the dew worms.

But all of this will happen quite by itself, and with great enthusiasm, when the conditions are right. So, the very best and most important thing we can do is to get the soil mix right. Fortunately, this a one-time thing, and it'll only get better once we have that right. And all the other things are really easy to do.

Good rich loam consists of about 40% mineral (clay, silt, sand, gravel), 25% water, 25% air, and 10% organic content. Water and air take care of themselves when the mineral and organic contents are in the right proportions, so we don't have to worry about that either. That leaves the mineral and organic content. And these are rarely ideal, otherwise there would be good rich loam everywhere.

Most soils hereabouts are either too clayey, or too sandy, and all of them average only around 3% organic content. If your soil is too clayey, it needs a dose of fine sand to break up the clay, to let the air in, and to let the water soak through it all.

If your soil is too sandy, it needs a dose of clay to trap water. Clay is very important, because of its rich mineral composition, and because its particles are very fine and lens-shaped. The latter is what makes clay stick together so well - like two sheets of wet glass - but the lens-shape also provides a large surface for water to adhere to, and for chemical reactions to go forward on, when the clay is finely broken up and well distributed in the soil.

How much sand, to break up the clay - or how much clay to leaven the sand you need depends entirely on how much of each is in your soil. A 50/50 mix of sand or silt, and of clay would be really nice, but close to that is good enough. Most soils hereabouts need only an adjustment of these components; but if your soil should be rather hopeless in this regard, consider trucking in a truckload of topsoil as the easiest solution

That leaves the all important organic content, for this is what holds and stores water - like a sponge - holds and stores nutrients, and is the world and living room in which all the soil biota live and work. And the organic content needs to be beefed up to 10% in almost all instances. But this is rather easy. Just add as many leaves, grass clippings, pine needles, compost, manures, seaweed (excellent, for its 72+ trace elements), shredded newspapers, duff (the surface litter on forest floors - excellent) - anything that comes from a once living source - to your soil as you can get your hands on. (It's all about increasing the complexity of the soil, as the universe wants to do all the time, and in total contrast to our chemical agriculture which reduces the complexity of the soil). If you can get hold of a lot of leaves - it's a snap in fall - spread them out thickly on a flat surface, and run the lawn mower over them to chop them up fine. Soil with a 10% organic content will feel slightly but noticeably 'springy' when walked upon.

Good loam should be deep brown in colour, and when squeezed in your hand, should crumble readily and nicely. It should not - stay in one hard lump (too much dry clay); squeeze through your fingers like putty (too much wet clay); run through your fingers (too much sand or silt); stay in one lump and drip water (too much organic content, which is rare, and only if your garden was once a bog). And for highly productive gardens, we should have at least an 18" inch deep layer of such loam.

Given the average soil conditions hereabouts, getting the soil into good shape is undoubtedly the most intensive aspect of it all - but it is well worth the effort because of the low cost, no-trouble, and no-hassle ease of gardening, and the healthy and bountiful harvests which follow therefrom. And it needs to be done only once, and things get better steadily from then on. Really. You'll see.

Meanwhile, get some duff (the soft stuff that covers forest floor), and some seaweed, put it together - half and half is good - in a carefully punctured (for aeration) black plastic garbage bag, and let it decay, open at the top, in a sunny place outdoors. We'll need this to make some beautiful propagation soil for starting seedlings around the end of February. Both seaweed and duff contain the complete natural range of the 72+ trace elements, and your seedlings won't get "Damp Off" disease. And you won't have to drench your propagating soil with "No Damp" fungicides - and still loose a lot of seedlings. Next, we'll tackle good drainage.

Biodynamic Principals - With Alan York

Good Drainage

Good drainage is essential to let rain - with which we are blessed in abundance - percolate through the soil and drain away from your gardens, instead of pooling and turning your gardens into a soggy, stagnant mess. Crops also need as much air in the soil as water, and good drainage under good rich soil assures both. And for prodigious harvests, we also want at least an 18" deep layer of beautiful rich soil.

A deep layer of rich loam over good drainage holds moisture far longer than shallower soil, and it also allows your crops to develop deep roots. This combination, deep loam and deep roots, will keep your crops growing lustily when the rain does not come, and it also sharply reduces the need for frequent irrigation. This not only saves much water and work, but it is a godsend for today's busy families, who may not find the time to irrigate a parched garden until the weekend comes around. With deep loam, holding plenty of deep moisture, and deep-rooted crops, you just don't have to worry overly about these things. Indeed, your crops can then take full advantage of the plentyful life-energy of many days of sunlight, and grow like nobody's business.

So, deep, well drained soil is one of the most important things we can do and, fortunately, this is also a one-time thing, and we need to do it only once. However, the most common conditions hereabouts are a 4 to 8 inch layer of topsoil, either over an impenetrable barrier of hardpan ( a layer of very hard clay), or over rock. But we still can have our 18 inch deep layer of rich well drained loam.

To start, we can dig a small hole in the ground and see where it 'hits bottom'. If it is hardpan, we can either have someone with a bobcat come in and deep till it to break up the hardpan, or have the bobcat dig a few strategic drainage ditches through the hardpan, or puncture the hardpan all over the place - every foot so in every direction - by driving a steel rod through it with a sledge hammer. It's well worth it, if good drainage is a problem.

If we find 18 inches or more of top- and sub soil, and drainage is not a problem, all we need to do is to improve the soil to a depth of our desired 18 inches, as per the previous article. If we hit hardpan or rock before that, we can do another really neat thing. We can make our gardens into raised beds - to a depth of 18 inches - with paths between the raised beds. This is an excellent and supremely productive way of gardening in any case, and very highly recommended.

The customary way of planting crops in single rows is not a good way of gardening at all. It comes to us from large scale farming with tractors and equipment, which has many disadvantages. It wastes a lot of space. It entails a lot of weeding in the spaces between rows. It compacts and hardens the soil from walking on it. And the bare ground between rows evaporates a lot of moisture. Altogether, it is very labour intensive, unproductive, and about the worst way of gardening there is.

Now then, if your soil is 18 inches or more deep, you do not really need raised beds, but you should arrange your gardens into 3 to 4 foot wide beds with paths in between anyhow. And if you have less than 18" deep soil, raised beds are a necessity for well drained and highly productive gardens with very, very little labour. Next, we'll tackle raised beds.

Building More Durable Buildings

Durable buildings

$65 billion to $75 billion is what Americans spend annually on maintenance, repair and replacement of parts of their homes according to the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).

"Homeowners don't have a way to quantify the value of durability so they don't value it, so they don't clamor for it from builders. Builders tend to offer the lowest-cost options," says Stephen Weber economist with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Christopher White, a research chemist, with NIST says, "As customers understand the value of durability, then the builders will recognize and offer more durable products. This gets people away from just going with first-cost estimate and lets them evaluate life long costs. People know almost to a penny what their mortgage costs, but have almost no ides what it costs to live in their home."

Durable buildings are a combination of durable materials and a durable design and adequate construction detail to allow these materials to function properly. One of the more important aspects of a durable building is its ability to control moisture - inside and out.

Keep in mind the expiration date of your building materials!

Durable materials

Examples of durable materials are concrete, native stone, brick, factory enameled metal roofing, copper roofing, slate, tile, hardwood flooring, bamboo flooring, galvanized nails, bronze bolts, etc.

Copper roofing will last 400 years plus. Sure it is more expensive initially, but when measured over time it is the cheapest! Plus you never have to work on it - zero maintenance. It is fully recyclable. As a bonus it is beautiful to look at (for all 400 years).

Slate, clay tile or cement tile roofing is durable but these materials are heavy and requires stronger and more expensive roof framing. Their useful life is about 25 to 50 years.

Cedar shakes and cedar shingles are flammable and will not pass the test of time. Their useful life is about 20 years.

Composition roofing lasts 15 to 25 years. This not a durable material and is not a earth friendly material. Over 300 square miles of composition roofing goes into landfills every year.

Fiber cement siding is durable (50 years). Vinyl siding is hazardous to the environment to manufacture and is not considered an earth friendly material. Cedar siding uses up some of the last cedar that is available and it will not last as long as fiber cement.

A concrete and/or stone patio is far more durable than a wood deck.

Plumbing fixtures - cheap facets with plastic parts will not last. The old fashioned chrome plated brass facets with replaceable washers and stems are durable. Plastic toilet tanks ball cocks distort under pressure and time. I have replaced the rubber washers in 50 year old brass faucets to keep them working.

Plastic hot and cold water distribution piping in houses have a checkered past. Galvanized iron rusts a tiny bit every year but is reasonable durable. Copper piping is durable.

Metal is almost always more durable than plastic or wood. Stone and concrete are more durable than metals.

Carpeting is not durable nor is it healthy because of all the dust, mites and critters (think spider eggs and hatchlings) that reside in it. Hardwood flooring is durable and easy to clean.

Linoleum is better than vinyl. Vinyl materials are hazardous to the environment during manufacturing.

With all material, proper maintenance is important.

Durable design

Here are some elements to consider in your design that effects the durability of buildings.

Keep roof designs simply. Complex roof designs that have dormers, valleys and intersections creates opportunities for ice dams and leaks. Dormers that are too close to each other can trap snow and ice.

Roof runoff should not be onto a walkway or front entrance for safety and maintenance reasons. Runoff should not be allowed to splast back against the house. Down spouts should have extensions to carry rain away from foundation.

Here's a receipe for frozen pipes and moisture problems - a floor plan that has a part of a bathroom project out over the wall below it. The outside cold air hits the bottom of this projection and causes the problems.

Try not to put a tub or shower on an outside wall. Moisture problems in the wall due to condensation is a real potential problem.

Built longer roof overhangs so rain and water running off the roof lands further from the house and walls. Also the solar damage is less to the siding.

Gutters get torn from a roof from the weight of ice and at the minimum are a maintenance item. Plan roof slopes away from entrances if possible.

Don't vent a bath exhaust fan into the attic. The moisture can condense in the attic area and cause unseen decay.

Do whatever you can to keep crawl space or basement as dry as possible.

Install perimeter drainage.

This lists can also go on and on. Just be thorough in your analysis.

Durable construction details and maintenance items

Remember that water and moisture is the number one enemy to the longevity of your house. Attention to construction detail is a must. Here's a short list of problem spots:

Flashing around windows (remember "the rain follows the plane").
Flashing around all penetrations in walls and roofs.
Maintain paint intregity.
Slope kitchen counters away from wall.
Clean gutters and downspouts of leaves.
Run bathroom and kitchen exhaust fans for longer then you think is necessary.

Building More Energy Efficient Buildings

Energy efficiency of a building is measured at two levels

The first is the embodied energy of the building materials. Embodied energy is the energy that has been put into it to make the finished component. For example, aluminum as 3 times more embodied energy than steel. Concrete (cement portion) has considerable embodied energy. Wood has almost none - just the amount for sawing, planing and sanding.

Second is the operating energy to maintain the building in a comfortable conditioned state. For example, all the heat and light energy used during the life time of the building (which should be more than a hundred years). This amount of energy is very large when added up over all the years.

Energy efficiency is the number one concern for designing and building an environmentally responsible building. There are several strategies for achieving it. The first is to use a high performance insulation system. This goes a long way to conserve the heat energy already in the building. The second is to use passive solar heating to warm our buildings with sunshine. Burning gas or oil or using electricity consumes non-renewable natural resources.

High performance windows and doors are critical to an energy efficient responsible building.

Construction details and good workmanship are also critical to an energy efficient and durable building.

Below is an introduction on solar water heating for the home -

Over 60% of the average Americans energy use goes to produce heat for their homes, water, and cooking. Fortunately, solar energy is well suited for these uses. Solar water heating systems have been warming water in American homes, schools and businesses for over 100 years. Even in Central Washington, they can supply 90 percent of a family's hot water from May to October, and more than half of what they use throughout the year.

Solar thermal collectors concentrate radiant heat from the sun and transfer it to a fluid. Solar thermal collectors are divided into two categories for residential use:

- Low temperature collectors provide low grade heat, less than 110 Fahrenheit, through either metallic or nonmetallic absorbers for applications such as swimming pool heating and low grade water and space heating.
- Medium temperature collectors provide medium to high grade heat (greater than 110 Fahrenheit, usually 140 to 180 Fahrenheit), either through glazed flat plate collectors using air or liquid as the heat transfer medium or through concentrator collectors that concentrate the heat to levels greater than "one sun." These include evacuated tube collectors, and are most commonly used for residential hot water heating
- Domestic Hot Water They come in a variety of styles but all of them collect heat in some liquid, usually water or water mixed with an anti-freeze, that runs through pipes in a box with glass on the front. The box helps keep temperatures inside around the pipes higher so more heat transfers to the liquid. The hot liquid gives its heat to another loop of pipes through a heat exchanger and this new loop is used for home hot water use or heating the space with a radiator.

Environmentally Responsible Building

Facts about natural resource depletion

In the next 12 months in United States, there will be over a million new single family homes built. Added to already 76 million residential buildings and nearly 5 million commercial buildings in the U.S.

These buildings together use one-third of all the energy consumed in the U.S., and two-thirds of all electricity. They emit 35% of all carbon dioxide emitted - the chief pollutant blamed for climate change. In the past 100 years, world levels of carbon dioxide risen 27% - 1/4 of that from fossil fuels just to provide energy for buildings. During this same period, the world lost 20% of its forest. Building consumes 16% of total water, 40% of all material flow and 15% to 40% of waste in landfills.

Each year $13 billion dollars of energy leaks out of cracks and holes in houses.

World wide, new home construction uses 1/4 of the wood harvest.

A standard wood frame house consumes over an acre of forest and the waste generated during construction average 3 to 7 tons.

There are approximately 500 square miles of composition roofing installed every year in the United States and more than 200 square miles of torn off roofing going to landfills! In a few decades, it may very well be hard to find a landfill that will accept it.

(In case you were ever wondering, composition roofing material is made of cellulose and fiberglas fibers that are first soaked in a runny saturating asphalt and then stabilizers and a heavier asphalt coatings are added. Finally a surface coat of ceramic coated crushed rock and/or crushed mineral granules is applied to the top side to protect the asphalt from weathering and UV radiation from the sun. Asphalt is the last remaining product in the distillation of petroleum crude oil.)

Here's another little fact to think about, petroleum crude oil is being used up 100,000 times faster than it was made!

Everyday the Earth must provide for 250,000 more people.

Globally, in the next 50 years, the number of houses that will be considered "modern " will be 4 times that of today. This exponential explosion is fueled by population growth, steady rise in standard of living, cheaper and more accessible building materials due to mass production and efficient transportation systems and easy access to information via TV, internet and telephones.

The math is simple and clear - at the rate people are consuming natural resources - and that rate is increasing - our civilization as we know it can not be sustained forever. Certainly not for the next 1,000 years, or maybe not for the next 200 years. Let's think - if the forest shrunk by 20% in the past 100 years and there is estimated to be 4 times the number of modern houses in the next 50 years - well go figure! It not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. It's a matter of time.

So that is why Earth Friendly Construction takes seriously green and sustainable building practices.

Definition of "green" and "sustainable" building

Green building is a loosely defined collection of land-use, building design, and construction strategies that reduces negative environmental impacts.

Sustainability means meeting the needs of people today without destroying the resources that will be needed by people in the future; It is based on long range planning and the recognition of the finite nature of natural resources.

The following extended definition of green building is given by an architect (edited from a chapter in "Green Building" by Alexis Karolides, AIA):

Green building is not an assemblage of "environmental" components nor a piecemeal modification of a standard building. True green building is a holistic approach to planning, designing, and constructing (or renovating) buildings and sites. It involves analyzing interconnected issues as site, climate, orientation, lighting, thermal comfort, materials, and optimizing all those aspects in an integrated design.

To capture the multiple benefits, the "whole system" design process must occur early in the building's conception and must involve teamwork.

Working together can also produce a "big picture" vision that can leverage one solution to a problem to create many more solutions - often at no additional costs.

It is precisely the integrated approach that allows many green buildings to cost no more than standard buildings, even though some of their components may cost more. Green design elements may each serve several functions and allow other building components to be downsized. For example, better windows and insulation can allow for smaller heating systems.

Strategies for designing green building

The one number strategy for green building is design. This is where you can design in green features and design out environmental nightmares.

When designing buildings strategize for -

Energy efficiency - Save energy. Use high levels of insulation. Insulation materials varies from about R-3 to R-7 per inch of thickness. Wood is about R-1 per inch. Install energy-efficient appliances, mechanical equipment, lighting

Reducing material use - Reduce overall size of building and use space more efficiently. - Smaller is better relative to the environment no matter what materials are used. Smaller buildings loose less heat. Design on 4 ft. units of dimensions, use 24 " on center wall studs.

Longevity & Durability - the longer a building lasts, the longer period of time for which the environmental impacts can be amortized. Use durable materials - this is usually more important than selecting low-embodied energy materials. Design for easy maintenance and replacement of less durable components.

Health - Proper fresh air ventilation. Control moisture. Avoid VOC off-gassing material such as carpeting, particle board and certain adhesives. Introduce daylight to as many places as possible. Direct vent or power vent gas appliances.

Save Water - water efficient plumbing fixtures, Collect and use rainwater, Xeriscaping, Gray water usage. Storm water infiltration.

Strategies for constructing green buildings

Use low impact materials - Avoid materials that create a lot a pollutant during manufacture or use. Use low embodied energy materials which includes shipping energy. Use salvaged, recycled or recycle content material. Avoid toxic material. Avoid limited supply material such as old-growth timber

Good workmanship - avoid leaks in roofs, flashing, windows, etc. Avoid cracks and openings in walls and floors. Proper detail work.

Minimize excessive use of materials - don't go overboard with framing, driveways, walkways, etc.

Protect vegetation and topsoil - reintroduce native species on damaged areas. Avoid pesticides . Protect topsoil.

Recycle C & D waste - return, reuse and recycle.

Strategies for furnishing a green building

Wood Furniture- solid wood tables and exposed furniture parts - can be sanded and refinished many times. Avoid rare tropical hardwoods.

Fabric on furniture - sofas and chairs with fabric covers that can come off and be laundered. This furniture is more likely to remain in the house must longer.

Furniture material to avoid - plastics and particle board because of outgassing

Fabric, wool, cotton - wool is naturally resistant to fire, mold, and dust mites. Organic wool and cotton have no chemicals and are excellent choices for chemically sensitive people.

Flooring - good choices are hardwood, bamboo, linoleum, ceramic tiles because of durability and ease of cleaning.

Walk-off mats outside of house entrances can greatly reduce dust and dirt inside..

Also consider vestibules at entrances, arctic door entrances, mud rooms. These control the rush of cold air into the house and loss of warm air to the outside as well as a place for dirty footwear. Removing shoes at the door is definitely a health plus.

Horizontal axis washing machines - 60% less energy, 40% less water, cloth are washed better with less wear and tear. Spin faster, dry quicker.

INFLUENCE ON THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF
SIBERIAN CEDAR NUT OIL BEARING THE
RINGING CEDARS OF RUSSIA TRADEMARK
IN THE COMPREHENSIVE THERAPY
OF DISORDERS OF THE DIGESTIVE ORGANS

A. B. Krivosheev M.D.

Novosibirsk State Medical University State Educational Institution for Higher Professional Education of the Federal Agency for Public Health and Social Development
Pine Nut Oil

Topical nature of the problem. The non-observance of a balanced diet (a disruption of the schedule and quality of nutrition) exerts the most immediate and at the same time undesirable influence on the system of the digestive organs, and first and foremost on the functioning of digestion, the stomach, and the duodenum, significantly disrupting the quality of life for patients. Modern medicine has various methods of treatment in its arsenal, and medicinal therapy occupies a primary place among these. The wide spectrum of pharmaceuticals is a sufficient guarantee of effective treatment, however it must be acknowledged that in real life this is far from always being substantiated. A lengthy treatment using medications is quite often the cause of the development of various complications. In conjunction with this exist other principles and methods, which, while being components of modern medicine, have not yet attained their proper development. These are non-medicinal methods of action for the treatment and the prevention of diseases.

Purpose of the study.

An evaluation of the effectiveness of using the biologically active additive Siberian Cedar Nut Oil produced under the Ringing Cedars of Russia trademark in the comprehensive therapy of patients with a pathology of the digestive organs and its influence on their quality of life.

Materials and methods.

Siberian Sea Buckthorn Berry Oil Extract
Siberian Cedar Nut Oil with Siberian Sea Buckthorn Berry Oil Extract

The clinical trial was conducted in a random population group in outpatient conditions. In total, 22 persons from 20 to 52 years of age (the average age was 37.2 +/- 2.4 years) were included in the trial. The study was conducted in accordance with the "Rules for clinical practice in the Russian Federation," which were approved by Order No. 266 of the Ministry of Health. Each patient observed signed an informed consent form. The patients were observed at the stage of an exacerbation of their disorder and received basic treatment for their primary illness. The biologically active additive Siberian Cedar Nut Oil produced under the Ringing Cedars of Russia trademark was included in the comprehensive treatment for all patients, one teaspoon prescribed to be taken 30 minutes before eating three times a day. The course of treatment was 20days. For the evaluation of the criteria of the effectiveness of the treatment, a standard questionnaire for the evaluation of the quality of life was used -- the Nottingham Health Profile, which evaluates the most significant parameters that describe a person's quality of life: energy level, pain, emotional reactions, sleep, social isolation, and physical abilities.

Results and discussion.

Whole Rose Hip Oil Extract
Siberian Cedar Nut Oil with Siberian Rose Hip Oil Extract

All of the persons observed had a pathology of the digestive organs. Gastroesophageal reflux disease was observed in eight persons; erosive gastroduodenitis, in nine persons; peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum, in four persons; and postoperative stomach disease, in one person. In persons 20 years of age in the group under study (five persons), the lowering of the quality of life indicators was minimal. Twenty days after the beginning of the treatment positive changes were observed, and the most significant of them were found precisely in this category of patients. Among persons of the young age group, the most noticeable improvement in the quality of life parameters was observed (P<0.05-0.02). There was practically a complete restoration of such parameters such as emotional reactions, energy level, and physical abilities. In the 17 persons of the middle-age group (from 31 to 52 years of age), the lowering of the quality of life indicators was also significant. On the completion of the course of treatment with the biologically active additive Siberian Cedar Nut Oil produced under the Ringing Cedars of Russia trademark, a reliable improvement was noted in the quality of life indicators (P<0.001-0.05). As a whole, in the entire group of persons studied, the most noticeable improvement was observed in the improvement of emotional reactions and what was especially remarkable, a restoration of sleep was noted. According to the results of the verification gastroscopy, a reduction of inflammatory elements in the stomach mucosa and the duodenum was noted, as was the healing of ulcers and erosions in the stomach.

Conclusion.

Thus, the tests conducted by us demonstrated that the biologically active additive Siberian Cedar Nut Oil used in a course of treatment has a positive effect in the comprehensive therapy of illnesses of the digestive organs and promotes an increase in the level of the quality of life. Adverse reactions were not observed in the course of treatment. This leads one to recommend the use of the biologically active additive Siberian Cedar Nut Oil as an effective means for increasing health reserves and for the preventive treatment of disorders of the digestive organs.

About Essential Oils of Siberian Cedar (Pine)

Pine Nut Oil

Essential Oils of Siberian Cedar (Pine) are volatile aroma compounds contained in various parts of a Siberian Cedar, mostly in needles, cones, bark and wood. Concentrated liquid extracts of a plant are easily obtained via steam distillation.

Steam distillation is the most popular method for extracting Essential Oils. The plant material is treated with steam until volatile elements of a plant mix with steam particles. This ethereal blend is condensed into water, with the Essential oil floating on its surface. The two substances are then separated.

Essential Oils of Cedar (Pine) have been used throughout time dating back to 4500 BC as perfumes, pleasant aromas and for medical purposes. Nowadays they are gaining a considerable popularity among prophylactic and medical remedies used by alternative medicine. Their pharmacological properties include relaxing effect on nervous system, stimulation of memory and brain work, elimination of emotional stress and hyposomnia and stabilization of blood pressure.

It is believed that Siberian Cedar resin essential oil bring a great benefit to the Immune System. At the same time Siberian Cedar cone essential oil improve mental concentration. Such oils as Siberian Cedar wood essential oil and of Siberian Cedar needle essential oil posses antibacterial properties and are used for air disinfection.

Using Essential Oils in massage and inhalation the oil molecules easily absorbed straight into the bloodstream through skin pores or lungs. It increases therapeutic benefit because almost full amount of used oil gets to the aim without losses. However, since most Essential Oils are very concentrated, they are often deluded with carrier oils when applied topically. The carrier oils can be sweet almond oil, apricot kernel oil or cedar nut oil.

Ringing Cedars of Russia's line of pure essential oils are sourced from the finest plants of the Siberian Taiga. They are not diluted with chemical and synthetic additives and are carefully prepared to maintain plant integrity. This commitment to purity makes Ringing Cedars of Russia essential oils the world's highest-quality essential oil line.

The oil of the cedar tree helps in skin problems such as acne, neurodermatitis, eczema, and fungal lesions of the skin, it eliminates irritation, promotes the rapid healing of wounds. This oil will help to preserve the youthfulness of the skin for many years. It makes hair stronger and prevents its loss.

It has an anti-inflammatory effect in cases of cystitis and urethritis. Cedar Needle Essential Oil - 10ml

Resin of Siberian Larch with Mint

Steam distillation is the most popular method for extracting Essential Oils. The plant material is treated with steam until volatile elements of a plant mix with steam particles. This ethereal blend is condensed into water, with the Essential oil floating on its surface. The two substances are then separated.

Essential Oils of Cedar Needle have been used throughout time dating back to 4500 BC as perfumes, pleasant aromas and for medical purposes.

Cedar Resin Essential Oil - 10ml

Resin of Siberian Larch with Mint

The Essential Oil Cedar Resin is obtained from the resin of the Siberian cedar (in Russian this resin is known as zhivitsa). Essential oil of cedar is a natural product of plant origin.

Because of its medicinal properties, resin has been known to humanity for many millennia. The dried needles of the cedar and fir, which contain resin-balsamic substances, and the essential oil of the cedar were used in ancient Egypt for compresses and poultices, in cases of hemorrhages and for treating wounds. In the 16th century of our era, resin was widely used for treating the plague, since the vapors of the essential oil of cedar have a bactericidal effect.

In 1868, in the Manual of Folk Medicine, it was indicated that "fir resin has a slightly irritating, stimulating effect, while siberian cedar resin is used to treat wounds, and in cases of rheumatic pains in the joints, and gout." During the Russo-Turkish War of 1877, the great Russian surgeon N. I. Pirogov actively used resin to treat wounds that remained unhealed long after an amputation - this was the basic topic of his scientific work.

For a long time, Essential Oil Cedar Resin was used for medical purposes only externally in the form of ointments and massages.

Dear Vladimir

After reading the excerpts about all your books on The Ringing Cedar Press website, I was so excited I immediately purchase all 9. I am so inspired that I have not been getting much sleep as I started reading the books and find it so hard to put them down! I have read 2 Anastasia and The Ringing Cedars of Russia and am about to start the third one The Space Of Love. I will be starting a vegetable garden on the side of my house and will be growing a herb garden in the window in my kitchen.

I really really appreciate your honesty in these books and even the questions you asked Anastasia served a purpose because they would have been my questions also.

I would love to have a cedar pendant from a real Ringing Cedar tree. There is no way that I would find one here. I live in Orlando, Florida, USA. Would you please send me a cedar pendant from a real Ringing Cedar tree please? I would really appreciate it.

Would you also let Anastasia know how much I appreciate her and please THANK HER SO MUCH!! for helping all of us in this world, she has opened up our minds and made us realize that we are not using our God given potential. Thank you again…there is so much gratitude in my heart it is overflowing….

Thank You ever so much.

I want to wholeheartedly thank you for writing The Ringing Cedars Series! Anastasia's messages bring ecstatic joy and comfort to my heart as they do for millions of other readers.

Hello,

I would just like to comment on the cedar pendant which I have been wearing for a month and a half. There is definitely a positive change in my life, both in personal and health. I wear it all the time and sleep with it in the night. I've bought many of them as gifts for friends and family. They are also very pleased with the pendants.

Aromatherapy is an art of healing by means of plant aromas. Aromatherapy emerged long before it was thought as a science. Have you noticed how easily you breathe when you are walking in a forest? How nice it is to feel piny wood scent and redolence of green pine needles and resin! This is a natural aromatherapy.

According to the first manuscripts with fragrance recipes aromatherapy has been used for 6000 years! In Egypt the use of aromatherapy is confirmed by earthenware tablets that described embalming process by means of aromatics.

Ancient people perfectly understood aromatic and therapeutic properties of plants. Contemporary civilization just begins to uncover the value of aromatherapy hidden treasures.

In the ancient times aromatic, antiseptic, antimicrobial and wound-healing properties of essential-oil plants were known and widely used from Babylon and Persia to India and China. In the old medical texts of these countries, written around 3000 years ago, many herbs and their utilization were described. Plants whose aromas were able to impact on consciousness were burned during religious ceremonies.

The resins that were used for incense were highly therapeutic; they influenced on respiratory system and immersed priests into meditative state. Egyptians applied fragrances from perfumery and cosmetics to medicine and mummification. Some perfume jars still smell with fragrance that was kept there 3200 years ago. Also Egyptians used aromas for skin care, washing clothes, added them into vine and food. Frankincense oil used to be burned in honor of Egyptian God Ra, it also was a great component in skin care recipes. Cedar and Myrrh oils were used for embalming. As it turned out essential oils of cedar and myrrh contained elements with strong prophylactic and antiseptic properties, which allowed mummies be preserved for a very long time. Egyptians acquired a reputation of perfume experts; however, they were not familiar with essential oil extraction methods and used only infusions and ointments.

Greeks continued researches in aromatherapy. They found new uses for essential oils in medicine. Ancient thinker and pharmacologist Pedanius Dioscorides wrote a book about healing with herbs "De Materia Medica". This book had been very popular in Europe for 12 centuries. Many recipes offered in this book are still useful today. Another Greek physician Hippocrates - the founder of contemporary scientific medicine composed a work where 236 plants and their medical use were described. Reflecting Greek philosophy of his time, Hippocrates approached patient as a unified whole and as a part of nature. He believed that plants contain medical elements in optimal combination and thus they heal better when unprocessed or as natural juices.

Romans based their knowledge on Greeks' aromatherapy achievements. Their innovation was in bringing aromatic plants and ingredients from Aravia and Eastern India. With new plants more deceases could be cured. Romans paid a lot of attention to the aromatic properties of plants. In antique Rome and Greece perfumery with floral scents was booming, the essential oils were widely used in steam baths as a daily ritual. Many Greek doctors served in Roman army and carried their aromatherapy knowledge through different countries. Ancient Greek philosophers believed that essential oils were given to people by Olympus Gods as a means of supreme light, awakening love.

After the collapse of Roman Empire, Arabic perfumers improved aromatherapy knowledge. They were the first who applied steam distillation for extracting essential oil from rose petals. This invention is believed to belong to Avicenna, philosopher and a physician of Middle East. He described more than 800 medical means that were mostly of botanical origin. In his book "The Canon of Medicine" he described steam distillation method which is used nowadays as well.

European aromatherapy was developing in medieval times. During crusades Arabic fragrances were spread over entire Europe. Plant's medical properties were intensively studied at the times of pestilence spread. Branches of lavender and cypress were burned on the streets. It was the only protection against Black Death that people knew.

In the ninetieth century with the development of synthetic pharmacology the importance of aromatherapy began to decrease. However, when it was noticed that synthetic products caused multiple complications the interest in aromatherapy arose again.

In 1930, French scientist-chemist René-Maurice Gattefossé put into practice a term of Aromatherapy. His family owned a perfumery fabric, and, according to the legend, Maurice, working in a laboratory, burned his hand badly. By reflex, he dipped his hand into lavender oil that was standing by. Later he was so amazed watching mystical recovery and disappearance of scars on his hand. As a result he dedicated his live to researches about essential oil cosmetic and dermatological properties.

French physician Jean Valnet significantly expanded uses of aromatherapy. He was using essential oils for disinfection of wounds and for internal organs spasms relieving. In 1964 he published a book "Practice of Aromatherapy" triggering the aromatherapy practice in Europe. Homeopathic clinics, practicing aromatherapy were build in Paris, Sveden and England where obvious rejuvenation properties of essential oils were studied.

Contemporary aromatherapy is first of all a prophylactic and healthful method of maintaining good psycho-emotional and physical fitness. It is a therapy that relieves everyday stress and prevents development of infirmity. In Canada, US, Europe and Japan thousands of aromatherapy clinics operate, aromatherapy books are published and scientific laboratories are working, continuing the tradition of aromatherapy use.

With the growing popularity of aromatherapy many people get familiarized with therapeutic properties of essential oils and start using them at home on a daily basis.
