Khrebet Uralsky Kin's Settlement

THE SETTLEMENT OF KIN'S DOMAINS known as Khrebet Uralsky is located in Kushvinsky District of Sverdlovsk Oblast, on the territory of a desolate village, where only about ten local inhabitants live on a permanent basis. There is no infrastructure here, there is only electricity as well as a stop for the suburban trains.

Beginning in 2006, new residents began to live here on a continual basis: Sergey Mikhaley and Veronika Pashkevich from Nizhny Tagil. They have established neighborly relations with the local inhabitants, have told others of their plans and the fact that they invite their friends and acquaintances to move to Khrebet Uralsky. And from as early as the spring of 2008, new families began to move here. As of June 2009, 12 new families (23 persons) are setting up their parcels of land in Khrebet Uralsky.

The new residents are involved in the forestry trade -- they produce 10% turpentine balsam (cedar resin in linseed oil) and natural ointments, they collect herbs for teas, and berries and mushrooms.  This even now enables them to make a living. And their plans include raising bees, the creation of a craft cooperative, and projects on the Internet.

Belgorod Oblast is considering the revival of Kin's Domains

It is possible that so-called kin's domains will soon appear in the region. This information was announced today at a meeting of the Oblast Parliament Committee for Economic and Small Business Development.

Valery Shamaev, the head of the Oblast Department of Property and Land Relations, who presented the pertinent draft legislation to the members of the committee, explained that kin's domains (as specified in the document -- associations of persons who are managing households and farmsteads in domains situated next to one another) are very beneficial. They make it possible, for example, not only to introduce ecological systems of arable farming, but also to revive the village, and folk traditions and crafts. As announced at the meeting, such de facto structures already exist (the house of an individual family living on its parcel of land can be completely taken for a kin's hearth and home), the only thing missing is a legal basis for all of this.

This seemingly simple draft legislation, however, provoked a fair number of objections. Thus, the representative of the Oblast Office of the Public Prosecutor declared that he did not understand why such a law was needed if a family could nevertheless call its home a kin's domain. Moreover, it was also not understood whether citizens living abroad could also be included under this concept, and the size of a kin's domain was not clear. Questions also arose from other persons present. In the end of a fairly lively discussion of the draft legislation, votes for and against were equally divided. “So this is the situation,” summed up Leonid Novikov, the chairman of the committee, and recommended that the draft legislation be completed.

Kin's Settlement in Chernigov Oblast

Region: Chernigov Oblast

Location: Priluki District (25 km from Priluki), 130 km from Kiev

We invite you to join us in the creation of Kin's Domains. We have selected a site for our Kin's Domain in Priluki District of Chernigov Oblast. We are planning our move for permanent residence in 2010. For the time being, we are only one family, we are seeking neighbors who support the idea of creating Kin's Domains and are prepared to undertake real action.

We shall tell you a little about the site itself: it is a village, in which there are a few local residents and many empty houses. The village is located next to a forest (Ichnyansky National Park). The Uday River flows very close by, and not far from the village are several lakes. The areas are very beautiful, the air is clean.

Our house is located at the edge of the village. Further there is a field that has not been worked for a long time. In the words of the head of the village council, these are shares. The village itself has many empty houses, some of them are in good condition, some are in ruins. For the time being we are not interested in what is being sold so as not to raise the prices.

If our proposal interests you, call or write.

Welcome to
SPACE of LOVE Magazine!

Fifth Issue is out!

Many of us agree that our planet and world are in profound transition - facing a turning point in human history. Some say that we as a people have had this same chance many times before in our near and far history. Each time, so history shows, humanity sank back once more, en mass, into the same spiritual sleep. But once more, we are also closer than ever to be able to turn this planet into the paradise it was meant to be.

At this time on Earth, more people than ever are committed to awaken and to stay awake even as a large percentage of the world's beautiful people are being hypnotized and mass-manipulated out of their divine powers by only a few dark minds. We seem to have forgotten our most inviolable power, to love each other and co-create this beautiful Earth as a Space of Love, the metaphorical and literal paradise-like garden it was meant to be.

We were inspired to create this magazine by the incredible wisdom and vision of a young, beautiful recluse living in the wild of the Siberian Taiga, Anastasia, and a courageous author, Vladimir Megre. He has recorded her amazing, encouraging story and wisdom for us in a series of ten books, and eleven million best-selling copies, translated into over twenty of the world's languages.

We create and write through this meeting place, this Space of Love, for those of us who are ready to help transform and see this planet as the luscious paradise it was meant to be. Anastasia envisions and holds for us a foreseeable future where every man, woman, child and animal can eat and live in peace and harmony.

Our mandate is to share writings and ideas which help us transfer this inspiring vision into joyful lives all over the world.

Love's Blossom

I look back and my tears they do fall,
I glance forward and I smile,
The horizon's eager anticipation,
Paints a picture that all the while,
Has been awaiting my return...our return,
And the day is brighter, the night quiet,
As I re-dream rebuilding our lives, our love,
Where there is no chaos, no riot,
Only a life of gladness, replete with,
The Father's aspirations, The Mother's inclinations,
Of birth and rebirth, of Love, of Light,
And in beauteous awe I admire Their creations,
So I dream that there is only a life in gladness,
An end to madness, as I sigh the deep sigh,
Of relief, of The Good restored, an Earth adored,
As the Grand Dream, love's blossom, draws nigh.

Things in Russia are turning into a practical direction. The number of the kin's domains is growing, one group of settlers went thru a lot of red tape and finally had their village registered officially by the government as a new community with an official address, zip code etc. The name of this eco village is Kovcheg (Ark), Enthusiasts are filming documentaries about other settlements and distribute them via the Internet. I wouldn't say the price is very small for Russians (a set of DVDs is about a thousand rubles, i.e. approximately US$ 35) but the viewers response is full of admiration and excitement: those are movies about absolutely real people and places that contain a lot of energy of their special kind. One of the enthusiasts to film and distribute those documentaries is Vadim Karabinsky (he has his list serve and site but I don't have the links at the moment).

The official Anastasia site went thru some streamlining and new administrators (women) put in a lot of energy to shake it up but unfortunately they put off some of the forumers. That site had a lot of true supporters but it was also full of bla-bla-blaists (hesitant people who would prefer to talk and look for the answers in front of their PC rather than do something). Some other sites appeared where there is much less metaphysics and global considerations but much more very practical advice and tips for eco-settlers who started building their domain - from how to dig a well with just you and your second half to housing construction and animal training to raising children and independent energy supplies. You can watch members' movies and pictures there too, even though you may not understand the language, the photos and the voices will tell you enough about how things are going in Russia and Ukraine and Belarus (I guess some other neighboring countries are also featured there). Take a look at http://www.vpomestie.ru to see all that yourselves.

Basically, the country is at cross roads with a certain number of pioneers trailing the path without ever looking back or wanting the "civilization" as we know it. I should say, however, most of the population are still in the rat race out there for coins. Yet the number of those who are building their domains is definitely growing without much publicity.

Homebirth - Water birth

The Question Might Seem Simple

by Elena Tonetti-Vladimirova - 4/20/96

I just returned from the Second International Waterbirth Conference. The first was in London two years ago. This one was in Greensboro, North Carolina, in mid April. In attendance were nearly four hundred women from nine countries and thirty seven states - doctors, midwives, nurses and prenatal educators. The three Godfathers of the movement were there: Michel Odent, MD, who started delivering babies in water 12 years ago in France, Marsden Wagner, MD, from Denmark, officer for Womens' and Childrens' Health for the World Health Organization who has been supporting the whole idea for the last 10 years, and Michael Rosenthal, MD, who has delivered a few less then 3000 babies in his waterbirth center in Upland, California. It was incredible - very moving, inspiring, - “a silk revolution” in obstetrics. The atmosphere in the room was absolutely uplifting. There was a palpable excitement in the air. People were glowing with eagerness to share and learn. Bits and pieces of experience from all over the world about this relatively new method were presented. Many stories were told. Much of the discussion was about technical details - when to get the baby to the surface, what to do with placenta, when to cut the cord, etc. The unique video materials ranged from touching to breathtaking. Each presentation and video brought deeper unity and a stronger sense of common goals. I was invited there to be part of the Russian presentation. Since 1982 I was involved in the underwater birth movement in Russia.

Our presentation was about emotional healing and spiritual preparation during pregnancy as key factors of having a good birth. There was a great need to hear this. Midwifes know this intuitively, but emotional and spiritual aspects are not measurable and do not fit nicely into the medical model of the birthing process. Consequently, these factors have rarely been taken into consideration. When we spoke about it, it broke the ice. It went exactly where we aimed it - into their hearts. Our presentation caused a standing ovation. Faces were wet with tears all around us when we finished. Women were so happy to get this subject out in the open. Together, in a large group, they were able to open up to these ideas from outside the mainstream. Everyone carried a healthy, joyful, enthusiastic charge back home. Obstetrics can not stay the same after this. Of course, it will take time, but this event sure gave us a lot of hope. Here is the paper that I prepared for midwives at the conference.

"The question might seem simple. What does it take to give birth to a child with joy and ease? The answer is not so simple, as it turns out. But the search for that answer can bring a pregnant woman a birth experience that will heal her soul, transform her lover into a father and bring their relationship onto new higher level. She can go through birth with full awareness and keep it in her memory as the most precious moment of connection with the father and the child. The main thing to remember about creating a short and smooth delivery is that it reduces chances of birth trauma for the baby dramatically. The lack of birth trauma means that baby will start life right, strong and healthy.

Is it too much to expect? No, it is not. I have seen it happen. So, I know for sure it is possible.

We have left far behind the times when doctors were advertising for cigarettes and saying that formula is much better for infants than breastfeeding. But still the social portrait of childbirthing is somewhat full of panic. Whenever there is a scene in a movie of a woman giving birth it looks horrifying. It makes a young girl wonder why she would want something like that happen to her. Yes, fathers are already in the birthing rooms, but mostly it is devastating experience. When some doctors discuss birthing they automatically assume that it starts with contractions. But it is like wanting a BA degree and assuming that all it takes is to go through the final exams.

The quality of birth depends on the quality of preparation and, of course, on genes. There are people out there who receive their degrees without years of studying. But the rest of us need to study. Giving birth doesn't have to be a fearful and painful disaster which a woman survives somehow with the help of drugs and forgets about as soon as possible.

It is great if a pregnant woman goes to Lamaze classes and watches her diet and does exercises, it helps of course. But it happens all too often that a woman with a perfect diet has devastating morning sickness. Or that a midwife who has all the necessary knowledge has to have a C-section herself because her cervix wouldn't dilate. Or that a woman being physically in great shape still suffers through birth tremendously. What does it depend on?

In search for the key factors a group of people in Russia that I worked with for a few years found some answers. They are: clearing out of the negativity from a pregnant woman's emotions and mentality on a very deep level and bringing to peaceful satisfaction all the relationships in her family - first of all with her parents, grandparents, in-laws and, of course, with the father of the child. In some mysterious ways all these relationships and feelings have a profound effect on the birthing experience. It is all connected.

Another aspect that brings birthing into the state of the art realm is spiritual. When a woman is able to take her time during pregnancy, meditate and pray every day, she discovers the whole universe of unlimited gentle support. It helps her to stay above the stressful level of everyday activity, keeps her at a high frequency, so to speak.

I'd like to introduce here a few friends of mine who took their task of becoming mothers seriously and did a great job of preparation. Here is Vickie Davis, 35, who refers to the whole thing as a miracle that happened to her. The birth of Vickie's daughter took 3 hours. She didn't make a sound of unease. Her face stayed calm and beautiful. It doesn't mean that she did not feel pain. She did. Birthing is birthing. But it was the kind of pain that doesn't hurt. During the preparation she developed the right attitude, that state of mind that makes an incredible experience like this possible.

"At 4:30 on a cool April morning in 1994 my daughter shot out from my loins into an inflatable tub of luxuriously warm salt water in our living room. That was the culmination of a wondrous transformation. My pregnancy was a most profound state of being for me. Raising a life inside may well be a time with the greatest potential for holding hands with God, yet it seems that most women view it only as an arduous physical state they must endure. It saddens me that our gender as a whole is wasting this tremendous vortex of energy. To describe the unfolding that took place for me during this awesome experience would take pages. I was fortunate to connect with a beautiful woman, Elena, who gave pregnancy classes that traversed a more spiritual vein. She had a gentle pushing effect on me towards personal empowerment She encouraged us to make the pregnancy and birth experience our own, to go deeper, to feel more.

I greatly feel the benefits of communicating with my unborn child. My God! This is a source of creation in a uterine shell! Draw from the wisdom, power and truth of this! That is what it is there for. I felt much clearer and cleaner during this pregnancy than I ever thought possible. Challenge upon challenge was faced and conquered with a ease beyond my former self perception. I learned that pregnancy is the most privileged time to advance along the spiritual path."

There is something about pregnant woman, that doesn't have a name yet in medical science, as far as I know. That incredible mobility and flexibility of all systems in the body and in the mind! Think about it! Every minute everything is changing adjusting to the new life inside. All the hormones, all the tissues, the whole chemistry. Pregnant woman by definition is a co-creator. Creating life should be fun. What an opportunity to place your orders! ---"While you are at it, could you please clean my liver?" or "I've got some extra fat , let's turn it into energy!" And -"Poof!" ---"Your order, maam! Anything else? " So don't miss your chance and take charge.

Here is Jerri Woo, who was trying to get pregnant for many years. And finally as a result of her intention and efforts she has a beautiful healthy boy. She has referred to the work of healing that she accomplished during pregnancy as to the best thing that had ever happened to her.

"I had a stillbirth daughter prior to conceiving my son. I knew I didn't want to be scared and nervous after it. So I chose to prepare myself physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. In the very beginning I was fortunate to meet a man named Igor Charkovsky. He not only led me down a path of peace of mind, he helped me realize how much control we have of our own thoughts, emotions and self-worth. While trying to conceive, I sought out a counselor to help me deal with my disturbing upbringing and abuse. I did not want to bring it into my child's life, so my goal was to gain that new freedom from my childhood pain and confusion before the baby's arrival.

The most inspirational events during my pregnancy were with a group of pregnant women. We met once a week to discuss our thoughts, joys and fears of our upcoming deliveries. Our facilitator, Elena, structured our meetings. With her soothing, gentle voice, she'd lead us through imagery work, breathing, dance. She helped us to look deep within ourselves to discover our needs and our strength. I've learned so much from her and our group. I never felt so powerful as I did when I was carrying my son. Knowing that I am able to choose the way my son will enter the world was so enlightening to me!

So I gained such a positive attitude, I felt blessed throughout my pregnancy. I remember Elena asked me one day how long I wanted my labor to be. I said, "6 hours." She said,"Why not 2 hours?" My labor was three hours. I'll never forget how I felt and how much I loved that baby working his way into this world. I'm going to turn 40 in March and we are thinking of conceiving another child. I can't wait to feel another life inside me , squirming and kicking and giving me such love and power as a woman. My son is such a happy boy and when he smiles at me my heart sings."

It is amazing how much a pregnant woman can accomplish in nine months! If the basic care of good diet and exercises is accompanied by such essential techniques as meditation, visualization, rebirthing, communicating with the unborn child and counseling. Pregnancy makes visualization especially powerful. I have watched pregnant women being able to heal some serious physical conditions through visualization. Pregnancy opens up even naturally skeptic women. And from the first thought, "It doesn't hurt to try," they make a smooth transition to enjoying the results and keep practicing it. Working out the conflict from pregnant woman's system can change the flow of birthing process dramatically. Even if a woman and her partner didn't have enough consistency or time during pregnancy to clarify the psychic atmosphere in their family, the birth itself is a great opportunity for it. A woman is able to dissolve many of her limitations and blocks, which otherwise could take her the rest of her life to resolve. If she consciously uses the tremendous energy of birthing available to her, she can accelerate this usually lengthy process . If for some reason the contractions start going weaker and slow down, the first thing for her to do is to relax, get really quiet and not get scared. Ask herself a question - what is the reason that it is not going smoothly? Then get as quiet as she can and let the answer come into her consciousness . It will surface. It could be some situation from her past when she was hurt or hurt somebody, or her previous abortion, or a lie, or old unhealthy relationships that keep taking her energy away. Whatever will come up is the subject of her undivided attention for the next few minutes. She needs to recall this situation in detail, very emotionally and then forgive. Forgiveness is the key here. Forgive herself and whomever is involved and ask them to forgive. The divine energy of birthing will give her at that moment enough power to let go of dead connections and all that grief that became a habit to carry around. She will experience liberation and the birth will proceed smoothly again. The energy of baby's emerging is available to a woman only a few times or even once in a lifetime. It makes sense to fully embrace it, to use it to accelerate spiritual and emotional growth.

Here is April Perdue,19. By the time of birth she felt completely ready. But her labor had one more lesson in store for her: one of the most important, on patience.

"I was very happy to be pregnant. At the same time I was aware of the abuse and dysfunction that took place in my home, when I was growing up. I didn't want to pass on to my child that pain and anger that I grew up with. During the fourth month of my pregnancy I joined the group of pregnant women, who had the same goal of preparing themselves. We met weekly. The healing work that I did there was immense. It did far pass any of the healing I had done before. Elena, our facilitator, explained that it was because I was pregnant, and my ability to change was greater.

Going below the surface and acknowledging what was there, even though it wasn't pretty , allowed me to move on to the next step of my evolution. I had really wanted to have a water birth. I had a birthing tub waiting for me in the center of our living room. I was ready , very happy and free from fear.

I got in the water and it brought my contractions very close together. It was very strong pain. Different from anything I had ever felt before. I was not welcoming it. I spent the next twenty-one hours out of the water laying on my side breathing through my contractions. I was only three centimeters dilated. My midwife said that I should go to the hospital.

I realized that I didn't want to go to the hospital, that I need to make myself accept the big pain. I had to ask for pain because that is what brings the baby out. With every next contraction I was singing that it was good. I welcomed my sensations. Four hours later I got in the water again. Both my midwives were great. I am very grateful to everyone present there. In water I ooooed steadily through my contractions. I was very happy. The morning sun was shining through our windows. Chris, my partner, was in the tub with me helping me along. It was magical. I wanted to give birth. I was probably about one hour away from being completely opened up. At this point I became impatient. I wanted to start pushing. It makes me sad to think of this. Because I didn't look within me and let the natural process unfold. I asked if it was O.K. to start pushing. My midwife said O.K. That's where things went wrong. Up until this point my son's heart beats were very strong. We were both doing very good. But when I pushed, my cervix swelled up. Baby's heart beats dropped to a scary low, they put me on oxygen. I stopped pushing. It took a few minutes but my son's heart tones came back up. It took until 11:00 p.m. that night for my cervical lip to become unswelled and go back over his head. Then my body started pushing and there was nothing to stop it. That was the best part. I was breathing straight oxygen during the hour of pushing and then he was born. He was born with his eyes open. He was beautiful. I just wanted to hold him. I said, "Ian, I love you. I love you so much. I am sorry for all of the complications. Chris and I both were touching and caressing him.

My labor taught me a lot. For example, the importance of patience and looking within myself for the answers. I learned to trust my body and it's knowledge of the natural process."

April's experience was very rich. Even though not everything went exactly the way she wanted, she grew tremendously through it. A friend of mine in Russia, Marina, shared with me once that after she went through the full tilt of preparation and delivery, where she felt being threshed and sifted like the grain in the mill, she gained a new sensation. She felt like a saint or an angel.

Here is another testimony by Cristi Flowers.

"I had such a powerful and profound experience from actively participating in childbirth preparation! My classes with Elena Tonetti involved preparing physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually for giving birth. Mental and emotional preparation encompasses a wide variety of techniques. In my experience, visualization was the most powerful tool to use to help me focus on the kind of birth I wanted to have, and to take my mind off of focusing on undesirable outcome. Working with the mind to overcome the fears that childbirth is surrounded by is a critical element to having a positive birthing experience. I worked a lot in this realm because I had previously had a very difficult birth with my first child. I endured so much physical trauma that I had crutches for a year and literally limped for two years after giving birth. I swore that I would rather have a C-section then to go through this again. So I had a lot of fears and mental obstacles to overcome in order even consider relaxing during labor. What it really comes down to is keeping your mind open to all possibilities and not being rigid in your mind set. I became open to the idea of having fast, easy delivery. And I became open to the idea of having a C-section if necessary so that my body would not suffer so extremely as it had. I encompassed all possibilities in my mind, but was focused on what I most desired which was a smooth, short delivery. The mind and the body must merge and join forces, truly working together towards the common goal. So often the mind and the body are at odds with each other creating internal conflict and physical discomfort.

Emotional preparation entails learning to let go and let your emotions flow when they are there. So often we fight them back and restrict our true expression of how we feel. We are afraid to be consumed by our emotions so we stifle them. However, if we let ourselves flow with our emotions , they become less threatening and very cleansing, giving us release and then a more calm and peaceful sense of being. They pass so quickly when we let them move freely. It is when we fight them, their energy grows out of proportion. Working with the emotions before birth allows much greater sense of peace and control during birth.

The final outcome of all my preparation work was an amazing birth. I began mild cramping at 9 PM on April 21, 1993. At 11PM my water broke and the baby's head was literally pushing itself out without any help from me. I didn't need to push because it was already happening without me. Prior to the water breaking, my contractions were steady and very tolerable, nothing dramatic or traumatic. It took us about 20 minutes to get to the hospital due to my resistance of not wanting to move. The doctor there told me to push and on 3 my baby was born. It was total of 2 hours and 43 minutes of labor, compared to the first time of 24 hours.

I am convinced that the childbirth preparation during pregnancy was the key to such a radical difference in my birthing experience. Especially the spiritual aspect of it. For me it was complete surrendering to the infinite wisdom of creation that was taking place inside of me, very naturally. It was tuning into and remembering that God is in charge of the creation of this baby and my body is an instrument of participation. And my part in it was to relax and take good care of myself so the process could occur smoothly. Quieting the mind and emotions and taking good care of my physical needs was my way of being able to tune into the Higher Power that is in charge here. During pregnancy I began to trust and rely on that power to help me through birth. I trusted in the knowledge that this Divine Wisdom within me that was creating a baby also knew exactly how to deliver it to the external world. All the instructions I needed to give birth were inside me, inside all of my cells, so I no longer had to worry about it. This brought a tremendous sense of peace and internal strength.

There are also many physical exercises that are gentle yet powerful in strengthening a woman's body, so that she can endure the most physically demanding process in her life. Some women have a tendency to become overcautious during pregnancy, perhaps thinking that physical activity will be detrimental to the baby. But this attitude creates a lot of problems when the time comes to give birth. Women have to build up the stamina to carry them through the labor.

I think the child birth preparation deserves much more attention than it has received . It would decrease a lot of the birthing trauma that occurs way too often. Pregnant women need to be re-educated about good nutritional habits, appropriate exercises and necessity of dealing with toxic emotions. That healthy combination can optimize the body for this awesome event of birth."

In a very simple and sincere way all these women have shared with you their truth about the possibility of creating a miracle of letting go of fear and pain and giving birth to their babies without birth trauma. Each of them had a choice to make and I believe they made the right one. That choice was the integration of the premise that the quality of giving birth reflects the quality of self awareness that a woman gains by the time of birth. It depends on her ability to relax and accept full responsibility for herself and on the peace of mind that she accumulated during pregnancy.

This state of being comes from diligent work on healing her relationships with her parents, grandparents, the father of her child, his family, herself, the baby and the Universal spirit.

I hope this information will inspire birth educators to help pregnant women to realize that they have the power to create for themselves a fantastic birthing experience. I hope it will inspire pregnant women to gain confidence and make positive changes turning their pregnancies into a spiritual journey by opening up to a Higher Power, physically get in great shape by exercising, dieting and detoxifying their bodies and emotionally by resolving the conflicts that would block the free flow of energy during the birth. The outcome is worth every effort. Free from birth trauma, infants will grow into strong, healthy, intelligent, content, happy people, which is the next step of our evolution as humankind.

BIRTH STORIES BY MOMS

Asher
Just Shy of 10 lbs. and not a Tear

Birthing in water made all the difference to me. My son was just shy of 10 lbs! I am positive that I would not have been able to give birth without loads of intervention had I not been in water. It was also a very special experience for my husband to be in the water at the very end to catch the baby!

The baby boy in the pictures, Asher, is actually my third. After a second degree tear with my last delivery and severe back problems, I was determined to avoid some, if not all of those problems this time around! I knew about water births (I laboured in the water with my first) and initially decided to book into St. Thomas' to take advantage of their birth centre and pools. I had had a home birth with my second but it was not in water and I had torn so badly I had to go into hospital anyway to get stitches, so I thought if the hospital facilities were just down the hall it would be a better deal. I really believe in the whole idea of home births so it was a hard decision to make, but I was afraid of a repeat of what had happened before.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, through tremendous support from my midwives I decided to try a home birth again- as long as I could have a pool. I had read that water could help in all sorts of ways to prevent or at the least minimalise tearing. Having the pool was the final confidence booster I needed! I did use the pool in the weeks leading up to the birth as my pelvis did give me a lot of problems. What a relief! It was also great to experiment with different positions beforehand and I looked forward to the relief I knew the water would bring when I was in labour. I started having contractions on a Friday evening and was positive it was the real thing- until Sunday morning came and I was still only having erratic contractions. My midwives came over to have a look late Sunday morning and we decided that I should get into the pool for a few hours. Either that would relax me so much it would make it all stop and I could get some rest- or it would kick everything off. As much as I wanted to have that baby, I have to confess that I was hoping it would all stop so I could rest! However, a few hours later we had to call the midwives back because labour was in full swing. I mentioned before that if I had not had a pool I would not have given birth to this baby without loads of intervention and this is why:

Although it took awhile for labour to be established, the contractions I had this time around were different and more painful than the ones I had had in my previous deliveries. So even though they were erratic, they were quite painful from the beginning. If I had been in the hospital- even in the birth centre, I would have requested to be taken to a place for an epidural! If that had happened I would have been on my back trying to push out a nearly 10lb baby, which wouldn't have worked and would have required at the very least an episiotomy and vontuse- or worse. All my worst fears multiplied! The water made all the difference. It was still intense, but the mobility I had made it possible to cope right until the end when some gas and air did the rest! Being in water took all the pressure off my back and pelvis and made it 10 times easier for the midwives to examine and help me. I finally delivered a beautiful baby boy on my knees. And the best bit? I didn't tear! Not even a scratch! My husband and I also decided that he would get in the pool at the very end to catch the baby. What a magical thing for him to have been able to do! He loved every minute of it. What a difference in my son as well.

When I think of the measures it could have taken to get him out and yet he came out in the most natural and peaceful way- it shows in his demeanour as well. He is so peaceful and relaxed. So after the euphoria and relief of finally having the baby out, there I was at home, in one piece, with a peaceful, huge baby boy and I can't imagine it gets better than that! I am more grateful than I can say for having had access to a pool for labour. I know that it is a blessing that we live in a time were medicine can save the lives of babies and mothers- and offer pain relief when the mother wouldn't otherwise cope, but if I didn't believe in births with the least amount of intervention possible before, I am a full-on convert now. If you had told me that I would be able to give birth to a nearly 10lb baby without tearing and without any intervention, I wouldn't have believed it- but it just shows that given the right support and encouragement, and the right environment, women really can do what they were wonderfully designed to do!

Unscrambling Myths About Eggs

White or brown? Free range or organic? Which are the healthiest eggs for your family?

Anne Colvey

Birds of a feather

There is no nutritional difference between white and brown eggs. It all comes down to feathers. Hens with white feathers produce white eggs. Hens with brown feathers produce brown eggs. More exotic breeds such as the araucana or ameraucana produce blue eggs. Of course, when you start to dye your Easter eggs you'll want to use white eggs.

An egg is an egg is egg

Contrary to popular belief, brown eggs are not healthier than white eggs. And the colour of the yolk has nothing to do with an egg's nutritional value but rather everything to do with a hen's diet. The more carotene or vitamin A eaten by the hen the more yellow the yolk. But pale yolks are just as nutritious as dark ones.

One per day

Eggs have gotten a bad rap from the cholesterol crowd. But according to a study done at Harvard University, eating one egg per day does not increase the risk of heart disease or stroke. The Harvard study's team of nutritionists, epidemiologists and physicians tracked 115,000 men and women and measured their health against egg consumption. They concluded that healthy people can eat an egg a day without raising their cholesterol to harmful levels.

Not so free

When we hear "free-range" we imagine happy chickens clucking around the yard in the sunshine. But since it's not a legal industry term, free-range is essentially meaningless when describing eggs. To use the label, chickens must have access to the outdoor -- but being in a crowded pen with an open door or being in a barn with a window qualifies as free-range. You can get around this by finding a trustworthy supplier that raises chickens locally and without cages.

Organic is better

Organic eggs are healthier since organically raised chicken are not given antibiotics (growth hormones for poultry are not legal in Canada). The new Canadian Organic Standard, which came into force in June 30, 2009, requires that organic livestock management aim "to utilize natural breeding methods, minimize stress, prevent disease, progressively eliminate the use of chemical allopathic veterinary drugs (including antibiotics), and maintain animal health and welfare."

Under this standard, chickens must have access to the outdoors including pastures. However, standards vary in direct proportion to the size of the farm. The larger the farm the more crowding there will be along with practices such as debeaking. The secret is to find a small local source (usually at the farmers' market or farm stand).

Egg trivia

- There are now 200 breeds of chickens.
- An average hen lays 300 to 325 eggs a year.
- A hen starts laying eggs at 19 weeks of age.
- A hen must eat four pounds of feed to make a dozen eggs.
- Occasionally, a hen will produce double-yoked eggs throughout her egg-laying career.
- As a hen grows older she produces larger eggs.
- The mother hen turns over her egg about 50 times per day so the yolk won't stick to the sides of the shell

Vegan Protein Sources

Introduction

Being vegetarian does not mean your diet will be lacking in protein. Most plant foods contain protein and in fact it would be very difficult to design a vegetarian diet that is short on protein. Excess dietary protein may lead to health problems. It is now thought that one of the benefits of a vegetarian diet is that it contains adequate but not excessive protein.

Proteins are made up of smaller units called amino acids. There are about 20 different amino acids, eight of which must be present in the diet. These are the essential amino acids. Unlike animal proteins, plant proteins may not contain all the essential amino acids in the necessary proportions. However, a varied vegetarian diet means a mixture of proteins is consumed, the amino acids in one protein compensating for the deficiencies of another.

Structure & Functions

Proteins are highly complex molecules comprised of linked amino acids. Amino acids are simple compounds containing carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen and occasionally sulphur. There are about 20 different amino acids commonly found in plant and animal proteins. Amino acids link together to form chains called peptides. A typical protein may contain 500 or more amino acids. Each protein has its own unique number and sequence of amino acids which determines its particular structure and function.

Proteins are broken down into their constituent amino acids during digestion which are then absorbed and used to make new proteins in the body. Certain amino acids can be made by the human body. However, the essential amino acids cannot be made and so they must be supplied in the diet. The eight essential amino acids required by humans are: leucine, isoleucine, valine, threonine, methionine, phenylalanine, tryptophan, and lysine. For children, histidine is also considered to be an essential amino acid.

Proteins are essential for growth and repair. They play a crucial role in virtually all biological processes in the body. All enzymes are proteins and are vital for the body's metabolism. Muscle contraction, immune protection, and the transmission of nerve impulses are all dependent on proteins. Proteins in skin and bone provide structural support. Many hormones are proteins. Protein can also provide a source of energy. Generally the body uses carbohydrate and fat for energy but when there is excess dietary protein or inadequate dietary fat and carbohydrate, protein is used. Excess protein may also be converted to fat and stored.

Dietary Sources

Most foods contain at least some protein. Good sources of protein for vegetarians include nuts and seeds, pulses, soya products (tofu, soya milk and textured soya protein such as soya mince), cereals (wheat, oats, and rice), free-range eggs and some dairy products (milk, cheese and yoghurt).

Different foods contain different proteins, each with their own unique amino acid composition. The proportions of essential amino acids in foods may differ from the proportions needed by the body to make proteins. The proportion of each of the essential amino acids in foods containing protein determines the quality of that protein. Dietary proteins with all the essential amino acids in the proportions required by the body are said to be a high quality protein. If the protein is low in one or more of the essential amino acids the protein is of a lower quality. The amino acid that is in shortest supply is called the limiting amino acid.

Protein quality is usually defined according to the amino acid pattern of egg protein, which is regarded as the ideal. As such, it is not surprising that animal proteins, such as meat, milk and cheese tend to be of a higher protein quality than plant proteins. This is why plant proteins are sometimes referred to as low quality proteins. Many plant proteins are low in one of the essential amino acids. For instance, grains tend to be short of lysine whilst pulses are short of methionine. This does not mean that vegetarians or vegans go short on essential amino acids. Combining plant proteins, such as a grain with a pulse, leads to a high quality protein which is just as good, and in some cases better, than protein from animal foods. Soya is a high quality protein on its own which can be regarded as equal to meat protein.

The limiting amino acid tends to be different in different proteins. This means when two different foods are combined, the amino acids in one protein can compensate for the one lacking in the other. This is known as protein complementing. Vegetarians and vegans eating a well-balanced diet based on grains, pulses, seeds, nuts and vegetables will be consuming a mixture of proteins that complement one another naturally without requiring any planning. Beans on toast, cheese or peanut butter sandwich, muesli with milk (soya or cow's), and rice with peas or beans are all common examples of protein complementing.

Previously, it has been thought that protein complementing needed to occur within a single meal. However, it is now known that this is not necessary as the body keeps a short-term store of the essential amino acids. A well-balanced vegetarian or vegan will easily supply all the protein and essential amino acids needed by the body.

ALERT: Special Swine Flu Update

Watch Video:

Interview with Barb Loe Fisher, Founder of the National Vaccine Information Center

By Dr. Mercola

I, like many others, consider 60-Minutes an excellent source of journalism. Their executive producer, Don Hewitt died earlier this year after leading the program for 41 years to one of the most successful programs in the history of television. His guiding principle was to tell a story and is actually a strategy I am seeking to implement on this site.

Last Sunday, their lead story was no exception and followed the champion strategy of telling the story of a young high school football player who was infected with the H1N1 virus...

Watch Video:

60 Minutes on H1N1 October 18, 2009

You can see the 60 minutes interview from 1977, over 30 years ago. This is in stark contrast to this segment. Admittedly it was done long after the damage was done but if you look at 4:15 you will see one of the CDC consultants clearly state he warned them of this danger and yet when the CDC head is confronted with this, he denies it.

Watch Video:

60 Minutes Episode on H1N1 from 30 years ago

Do you think much has changed in the last 30 years? If anything, conflict of interest has gotten much worse.

This past Sunday's 60 Minutes segment did ask some hard questions to the Assistant Surgeon General. However, what was missing is that they didn't ask why CDC officials persist in telling the public that this H1N1 strain of influenza is quite dangerous when the experience of those in the southern hemisphere, which just finished their flu season, is in direct conflict with what the CDC is telling the American people.

Overall 60 Minutes did a fairly good, objective piece of journalism that told the truth. They even pressured the Assistant Surgeon General about the vaccine's safety. On one hand, she's hitching her safety statements to the fact that the H1N1 vaccine is similar to seasonal influenza vaccine, and therefore "safe," even though she realistically CAN'T say that the new H1N1 swine flu vaccine is safe, or that it has been thoroughly tested because it only has been tested for a few weeks.

On the other hand CDC officials are screaming that H1N1 is so different from the seasonal influenza strains that have circulated in the past few decades that a national alarm must be sounded and everyone needs to be so afraid that we all should get vaccinated to prevent a deadly pandemic. This is completely inconsistent and irrational logic.

Come on CDC, you simply can't have it both ways.

Questions that Were Are Not Being Asked

The interviewer on the 60 Minutes segment did ask some hard questions, but he, like most of the mainstream media did not ask important questions that are absolutely essential to understand precisely what is going on with this "pandemic"

There have been 81 children who have died from H1N1 in the US. These of course are tragic.

How many pediatric deaths occurred in children who:

- Were positively lab confirmed as H1N1;
- Had underlying chronic immune and brain dysfunction
- Were fully vaccinated according to CDC recommendations
- Had received influenza vaccine this year
- Had received seasonal influenza vaccine in previous years
- Received Tamiflu or another anti-viral prior to death
- Had a coinciding bacterial infection with H1N1
- Were never vaccinated - totally unvaccinated

Other Important Observations on the Segment

It is quite clear from the video that Luke did not get worse until after he visited the physician and was given an antipyretic and possibly Tamiflu. Certainly it could have been coincidence but it is an interesting observation.

No mention was made if Luke had been vaccinated for seasonal or H1N1?

Additionally there was no reference made to the last swine flu epidemic in the US when 50 million people got the swine flu vaccine and more people died from the vaccine than the swine flu itself -- and that's not counting all those that developed permanent neurological damage.

Why is no one reminding the public of this well documented and vitally important part of vaccine history?

Your Immune System is Perfectly Capable of Fighting H1N1

Additionally what the 60 minutes segment failed to mention is that it is relatively easy to improve your immune response to fight this infection.

If 99.9% of the people are not having any serious complications from the infection, it would seem perfectly rational to believe that minor lifestyle changes could have dramatic effects on fighting this infection, and none of these involve taking potentially dangerous and unproven vaccine interventions.

Simple Measures That Can Help You Fight Illness

- Vitamin D has been well documented to increase the production of over 200 anti microbial peptides that fight infection.
- Eliminate sugar from your diet as that will impair your immune response
- Get plenty of rest
- Exercise appropriately
- Take appropriate supplements like oil of oregano extract, propolis, olive leaf extract, elder flower extract, acerola, DMG.

However you will need to know the above BEFORE you purchase any supplements on that list. Any company that informs you of the above will be in violation of US Federal law and a newly created Swine Flu Task Force has been given the authority to shut the business down and even throw owners in jail.

Violations of these new rules are being prosecuted even more aggressively than alternative cancer treatments. Earlier this week, Dr. Andrew Weil actually received an FDA/FTC warning letter that threatens jail time for failure to comply with the rules.

The Canadian preliminary study is provocative in that it suggests those who have gotten seasonal influenza vaccine in the past may be at greater risk for getting H1N1 and having complications. This reinforces NVIC's call for a comparison of vaccinated vs. unvaccinated individuals for all health outcomes.

Notice When Things Don't Add Up...

Interestingly, the 60 minutes segment acknowledges that many people born before 1950 have antibodies to the new H1N1 influenza and are naturally protected.

WAKE UP AMERICA, this is before ANY vaccine was available!

If influenza vaccines are so effective, then why don't they work to protect people that have been getting their flu shots all these years?

(There is a new Canadian study that suggests those who have gotten seasonal influenza vaccines in the past may be at greater risk for getting H1N1 swine flu. This information reinforces NVIC's call for a comparison of the long term health outcomes of vaccinated and unvaccinated children).

The answer is, of course, that vaccines do not offer long term immunity. Natural immunity is what you gain when you recover from influenza and natural immunity is what is protecting older Americans, who have recovered from exposure to H1N1 strains of influenza in the past.

What is unknown is whether the massive amount of vaccine exposure in the US population has critically weakened people's ability to mount an effective immune response to novel infections like H1N1.

It was discouraging to see 60 Minutes end their segment on H1N1 influenza vaccine with an encouragement to go to their website to find out where to get a swine flu vaccination...

Fighting Back in the Courts -- and Winning!

Last week the New York state Supreme Court judge issued a restraining order against the state from enforcing mandatory vaccination.

This came about as a result of a lawsuit by the Public Employees Federation, the New York State United Teachers, and an attorney representing four Albany, NY nurses, who sought to reverse the policy that required New York hospital workers to get the swine flu vaccine or face termination. The suit argued that NY state Health Commissioner Richard Daines had overstepped his authority.

The Supreme Court ruled that the vaccination for nurses, doctors, aides, and non-medical staff members who might be in contact with patients, remain voluntary.

This is an incredible victory, and a vital one. And it shows that there are still ways to oppose the complete disintegration of human rights, choice, and freedom.

In addition to that, on October 15, another group of health freedom advocates, including Dr. Gary Null and other New York health care workers, filed an emergency injunction in the US District Court for the District of Columbia to prevent the distribution of the swine flu vaccine, and to void the FDA swine flu vaccine approvals already granted on September 15.

The complaint alleges that the government failed to follow its own rules and applicable legislation in rushing the vaccine approvals in the absence of any of the requisite minimum scientifically sound and appropriate testing for both safety and effectiveness as required by law since 1964.

I will keep you posted on the progress of that injunction.

Criticism is Par for the Course When Advocating Non-Conventional Views

It's impossible to take a stance against such an ingrained medical paradigm as vaccines without taking some hits, and I've taken my fair share lately. Some bloggers and doctors are naturally unhappy with what I'm disseminating, so I'd like to take a moment to clarify my own views.

First of all, I'm glad that people from both sides of this debate are available to discuss it because that is what we desperately need -- discussion. Conventional medicine has routinely ignored and ridiculed the voices speaking up for a "safety first" approach. We need to have an open, public discussion about the realities and dangers of what we're doing, and whether or not vaccination is the safest approach to preventing chronic illness and maintaining health.

So I'm actually pleased that the opposition is taking the time to read my material, as are millions of others who already agree and have looked deeply enough into the matter to understand my position.

The fact of the matter is that vaccinations do not optimize immune function and there is way too little information about what else they do in the human body that may contribute to poor health. My main point is that there are ways to prevent illness and maintain health that are so much more natural, easier, less expensive and more effective than routine use of multiple vaccines in childhood and throughout life.

So in many ways I am grateful for the swine flu challenge that we are now going through, because it allows us the opportunity to expose flaws in vaccine system and the way mainstream medicine thinks about health and wellness.

Is the Swine Flu "Deadly," or Not?

There are far too many points of criticism to respond to them all, but let's review one point that has come up -- a point that is commonly heralded by mandatory vaccination advocates.

Many of them take serious issue with my claiming that the swine flu is not deadly, and use that to insinuate that I'm spitting on the graves of the children who have died.

Nearly all of them, just like the CDC and mainstream media, use the statistic that 36,000 people die from the influenza every year. I actually wrote an article about this fallacy more than five years ago.

Interestingly that number has remained static as if carved into stone all these years.

However, the truth is that less than 1,000 people actually died from type A or type B influenza. The other 35,000 died from pneumonia. This is actually clearly listed on the CDC's own website, yet virtually everyone ignores this fact.

Dr. David Rosenthal, Director of Harvard University's Health Services, brings further clarity to this confusion.

Most of these so-called influenza deaths are in fact bacterial pneumonias -- not even viral pneumonias -- and secondary infections. Furthermore, a study in the Journal of the American Medical Academy shows that many of these deaths are a result of pneumonias acquired by patients taking stomach acid suppressing drugs.

So, for example, if we are to take the combined figure of influenza and pneumonia deaths during the flu season of 2001, and add a bit of spin to the figures, we are left believing that 62,034 people died from influenza.

The actual figures are 61,777 died from pneumonia and only 257 from influenza.

Even more amazing, in those 257 cases, only 18 were lab confirmed as positive for the influenza virus!

In my opinion, there's a vast difference between 257 deaths and 36,000 deaths from influenza..

A separate study conducted by the National Center for Health Statistics for seasonal influenza seasons between 1979 and 2002 reveals that the range of annual influenza deaths were between 257 and 3,006, for an average of 1,348 influenza deaths per year.1

Again, nowhere near the 36,000 mortality mark that has been etched into stone by those who are advocating annual flu shots.

Although the loss of even a single life is tragic, I don't think anyone would look at these numbers and say that a mortality rate of less than 1,350 is cause to label influenza a "deadly disease" that requires mandatory influenza vaccination.

Listen to the CDC's Own Admissions!

So, how does the CDC respond to this discrepancy reported by the Harvard scientist?

Please read carefully the CDC's own statement:

"Typically, influenza causes death when the infection leads to severe medical complications... [and as most such cases] are never tested for virus infection...

...CDC considers these figures to be very substantial undercounting of the true number of deaths from influenza. Therefore, the CDC uses indirect modeling methods to estimate the number of deaths associated with influenza."

In an earlier 2003 article JAMA, William Thompson from the CDC's National Immunization Program attempted to explain "influenza-associated mortality." He wrote,

"Based on modeling, we think it's associated. I don't know that we would say that it's the underlying cause of death."

In summary, the CDC is admitting:

- Deceased are not tested to determine the presence of the flu virus, and
- They do not directly perform any direct testing to determine the exact cause of death. "Indirect modeling methods" is a professional way of saying they use subjective mathematical equations to arrive at their figures.

The 36,000 mortality figure is nothing more than a mathematical model. The British Journal concluded that the only possible rationale for the CDC's complete disregard for scientific fact, even in face of independent research to discredit its statistics, is a public relations effort between the CDC and the vaccine manufacturer's campaigns to increase flu vaccination.

What IS a "Deadly Disease"?

As of October 11, 2009 the World Health Organization reported that, worldwide, there have been more than 399,232 laboratory confirmed cases of pandemic influenza H1N1, and over 4,735 deaths.

Folks, that is 4,735 deaths in the ENTIRE world, not just the US!

Most all of these deaths occurred in immunocompromised individuals.

Now I do not want to diminish the value of any life, but what is needed here is a critical perspective.

Malaria kills ONE MILLION people EVERY YEAR, worldwide. Death is a direct result of the malaria infection.

So every DAY 2,740 people are dropping dead from malaria, whereas less than 13 people per day died from the swine flu in the past year, worldwide (if you disregard that most died not as a direct result of the swine flu virus, but from having poor immune function which led to serious secondary infections and complications).

Did you ever wonder why malaria doesn't get much press coverage? Doesn't it strike you as odd that more isn't done to clamp down on such a deadly disease if governments are talking about quarantine centers at airports and suspending personal choice and freedom over the swine flu?

Confusion and Misdirection IS at Work. But Why?

A thorough , comparative analysis of several flu pandemics has been published in the prestigious British Medical Journal, that gives evidence that the H1N1 swine flu is of "the same subtype as seasonal H1N1 that has been circulating since 1977."3 The author points out the substantial confusion between the high public attention the present H1N1 scare is receiving and the very low level of scientific certainty that H1N1 is more severe than other seasonal influenza.

With the facts at hand, it is easy to detect a pattern of misdirection and purposeful confusion.

Doesn't it make you wonder why?

You Can Make a Difference

Most polls show that we ARE making a difference because more people are becoming educated about influenza and flu vaccines, especially H1N1 swine flu. Recent national polls have revealed that 30 to 50% in many communities are not planning to get a swine flu shot. Those who haven't made up their minds yet have lots of questions. So we have created some posters that you can print and post ALL over your community, your local stores, office and schools.

Hopefully more people will wake up and recognize that it is not wise to blindly trust information that is one-sided and doesn't provide ALL the facts about seasonal and H1N1 swine flu and influenza vaccines. People now have access to information from a wide range of sources, which they can independently evaluate to make educated decisions and Take Control of Their Health!

One way we can make a BIG difference in protecting our right to make informed, voluntary vaccination choices is to support the three-decades of work by the National Vaccine Information Center to prevent vaccine injuries and deaths; protect exemptions in vaccine laws and promote scientific research into the health of vaccinated and unvaccinated children.

I have made this non-profit organization -- America's Vaccine Safety Watchdog - one of my favorite charities and I urge you to become a donor member and help NVIC protect your informed consent rights and your children's health.

Biodynamic Gardening

Storing Cabbages

Thank God for cabbages. What would life be without sauerkraut? It would be a situation too horrible to contemplate, and I shudder at the thought. I also have reason to suspect, very much, that this is my chief reason for growing cabbages. But this is not the only reason. There is another.

It's those fist-size cabbages which mature just before and around Christmas when one cuts off the mature cabbage heads leaving 5 to 6 bottom leaves on the plant in the ground. Cabbages are quite frost hardy hereabouts - indeed a touch of frost sweetens cabbages most delightfully - and those cabbage plants left in the ground will grow anywhere from 4 to 6 small, fist-size cabbages, all of which are any gourmands dream come true. It is as if they were made in heaven - the cabbages, that is. l am much tempted to call them "Christmas Cabbages" - which I do, to tell the truth.

And all commercial and market gardeners please note: Those 4 to 6 fist-size cabbages, and most of the time it's around six, amount to the volume of another large cabbage, and is a quick and very easy - and potentially very lucrative - second crop. For the flavour of these cabbages is straight from heaven, and should, by rights, fetch a pretty penny in the gourmet trade. What's more, their size also makes them a perfect serving for one person (gourmet restaurants, please note).

Harvesting

As always, cabbages need to be handled gently when harvesting to avoid any cuts, bumps and bruises, which will reduce storage life considerably. Select only solid heads without any sign of yellowing, decay or injury for storage. Trim away all loose outer leaves, leaving only three to six wrapper leaves. Under the best of conditions, cabbages will store well for up to six months.

Storing

Cabbages store best and most successfully at a temperature of 32 degrees F. and a relative humidity of 98 to 100%. They must not however be exposed to frost. While a slight frost does little damage, a hard frost will wreck them. So, the key words are cold, moist, and well ventilated. Under these conditions, and up to about 35 degrees F., cabbages will store well for up to six month. The best types for storage are the Danish varieties.

They will also wilt rather quickly if the humidity is not high; it must be high enough to keep the leaves fresh and turgid. They should also not be stored with fruit which emit ethylene when stored, as apples do, for instance.

If all this seems like a lot of trouble, for us on Salt Spring Island it wasn't. I had built a small, well insulated storage shed - even the door was heavily insulated - on the north side of the laundry room, and separated from the laundry room by 1 1/2 feet so no heat would be transmitted from the laundry room. The storage room had a bare concrete floor which we kept lightly puddled with water for high humidity, and it had shelves made from cedar slats, so they would not rot, for great ventilation. It had a couple of bottom louvres in the shade of the laundry room, and top louvres on the north side, for great natural cold air circulation. It also had two light bulbs, which was sufficient to keep the interior of the storage shed from freezing when it was freezing outside. It was easy, efficient, and worked like a charm. It also did not cost much to build.

This could also be easily done in the coldest corner of the basement. And while all this seems like a bit of trouble compared to just going out and buying the cabbages and carrots whenever we need them, it really isn't - given the many assaults on our health our chemically farmed food now contains.

It lacks over 60 crucially vital trace elements, without which we cannot help but sicken - and worse; it also is laced with all kinds of agricultural pesticides, fungicides and herbicides, and their pseudo-hormonal byproducts; much of it is now transgenic, and no one knows yet what this profoundly unnatural abomination will do to us; and much of it is now also irradiated to prevent decay. The latter is of particular concern to me since, in my view, the radiation cannot help but produce a heavy load of "free radicals", which are now well known to be cancer causing agents.

And since our completely natural and totally poison-free home-grown vegetables - according to the simple methods described here - are not only supremely healthy for us but also cure and prevent a lot of 'incurable' diseases, all this 'trouble' is the most worthwhile and supremely rewarding thing we can do.

And for those for whom building a storage shed is not an option, dehydrating our vegetables with one or two of the readily available and low cost dehydrators, is a simple, effective and valid alternative.

Organic Compost Gardening : Using Organic Compost

Fall Leaves - Don't Just Throw Them Away!

It's a weekend ritual in most neighborhoods: the raking and bagging of autumn leaves. And it is repeated, week after week until, at last, the last leaf has fallen.

But why make so much work for yourself when there are simple ways to make your fall leaf clean-up work for your garden? Why spend all of that time bagging leaves to be picked up by your municipality when you can put them to work in your garden beds? Here are five easy ways to use leaves in your garden.

1. Compost Them

Autumn leaves, especially those that have been chopped or shredded (you can use a chipper/shredder, a leaf vac, or a lawn mower to shred the leaves) are dream additions to the compost pile. Leaves are a great source of "brown," high-carbon material for the compost. Simply alternate layers of shredded leaves with the regular green materials you'd add to your compost pile (such as vegetable and fruit scraps, weeds, grass clippings, and plants that you pull out in your fall garden clean-up) and let it sit over the winter. Aerate or turn the pile when you think of it, and by planting time you'll have finished compost.

If you are a fan of lasagna gardening (also known as sheet composting) autumn leaves are a true gift to the gardener. And they come at the perfect time; you can build a lasagna garden now with your leaves and other compostables, let it sit over the winter, and plant in your new bed in the spring.

2. Make Leaf Mold

Leaf mold is a wonderful soil amendment that is made from nothing more than fall leaves with the occasional layer of garden soil or finished compost added. The pile sits for about a year, and when it's finished you have the perfect amendment for vegetable and flower gardens, as well as a fantastic addition to potting soils.

3. Mulch

Once you've shredded your leaves, they can be used as an organic mulch in flower beds, vegetable gardens, under trees and shrubs, or in container gardens. Simply apply a two to three inch layer of shredded leaves to your beds, keeping the mulch from directly touching the stems and trunks of your plants. The mulch will help the soil retain moisture, stay cool, and limit weed seed germination. As a bonus, the leaves will add nutrients to the soil as they break down, and the worms and soil microorganisms will work on them as well, resulting in lighter, fluffier soil over time.

4. Hoard Them

You may think that once all of the leaf clean-up is finished, you'll never want to see another leaf again. But just wait! What about when spring rolls around, and you're out there weeding and deadheading and pruning again, adding all of those "greens" to the compost pile? Brown materials can be hard to come by in spring and summer. But, if you've thought ahead and hoarded a garbage bag or two in your garage over the winter, you won't have any problem making perfect compost in spring. It's much easier to dump a bag of leaves on the compost pile than to stand there shredding newspaper in an attempt to dry out a soggy compost pile!

5. Mow Them

This one may be the easiest solution, as it involves no raking whatsoever. There really is no scientific reason to rake all of the leaves off of your lawn. If you simply run over them with a mower (with the wheels set at their highest setting) they'll break down over the winter, providing your soil with nutrients and shading the soil, which will result in fewer lawn weeds to worry about next year. If you do this once a week until the leaves are finished falling, you won't have to rake a single leaf, and your lawn will look better for it next spring and summer.

So, there you have them: five easy ways to deal with autumn leaves. Use one, or a combination, but don't be surprised to find yourself eying your neighbor's leaves once you see the benefits autumn leaves bring to your garden.

Living Better Right Where You Are

Tips and tricks for making your life a little better right now

Spend $15 for a water heater blanket to get 10-40% more efficiency out of your hot water heater!

Clothes dryers use at least six percent of all household electricity consumption and 10-15 percent of domestic energy in the U.S. Use a clothesline on the south or west side of your home to minimize the use of these expensive appliances!

You can improve your homes energy performance by up to 30% by just plugging holes. If you have broken windows, fix them or install an interior storm window. If they are leaking air (if the drapes swing even when the window is closed) caulk the gaps or install weatherstripping if the window is operable. Make sure the window is locked! The lock not only gives you security but also seals the window shut. Go through your attic and fill any holes in your insulation left by drilling for holes, electrical cords, or mechanical and plumbing systems. If your attic is insulated but your attic access door isn't make insulation cover for the door. Take a piece of scrap plywood that will cover the entire opening. Cover that with 8” batt or 3” rigid insulation, and slide it down on top of your attic door opening as you are leaving the attic. If you have vents on the eaves of your house, make sure that the air from the eaves is not being blocked by the insulation. Air movement is actually critical to the insulation working correctly. Make sure that the frame around your basement door is sealed tight. A leaky basement can affect your home's energy needs by as much as 11%.

If your electrical devices have an indicator light, a clock, a power adapter, or a standby function, it's using energy even when it's off. Put these, and especially your cable box - which uses half the power of a refrigerator - on a power strip. Find a central place in your home to set up a power strip and have the entire family commit to using this location to charge household items like batteries, phones, ipods, etc. Turn off the power strip when it's not in use. A timer-regulated power strip is now available from Belkin, and will turn itself off after an amount of time that you determine.

If you have a lawn, be sure it's seeded with native grasses. If you don't currently, seed your lawn over with natives and allow the old grass to die. The cost savings in water use will be amazing!

If you have an existing standard fireplace, purchase a fireplace insert which will help you retain up to 60% more heat using less fuel. You can also purchase a wood stove insert for your existing fire box for even more heat capture.

Be careful when using bamboo if you are renovating. Make sure it's been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), as non certified bamboo is often harvested earlier than it should be, rendering it not strong enough to last. Bamboo that is not certified is also harvested in ways that are harmful for the environment.

Install a toilet dam if you have old toilets and want to use them til they die before replacing them, and thus keeping them out of a landfill. These hold back about 1.3 gallons per flush. Rondell makes a $100 dual-flush retrofit device so you can have light and heavy flush options. For a free alternative, take a water bottle, fill it, and put it in your toilet tank. This will displace some of the water and let your toilet think it's fuller than it is. Thereby, turning it “off” earlier.

Add foam insulating underneath the wall plate on your electrical outlets and light switches.

Used coffee grounds and tea leaves are perfect amendments to compost heaps and especially for acid loving plants like blueberries!

Hang broken and no-longer wanted CDs in your veggie garden and especially near berries to keep birds away.

Use the water from cooking veggies, once it's cooled, to water your garden and indoor plants. The nutrients from the veggies will feed the plants. Don't use potato water.

Use your plastic grocery bags on your car mirrors before snow or sleet to save yourself the hassle of having to de-ice them.

If you'd like to grow wine grapes and are in a hot-arid or temperate climate zone then you can add a pergola to the southwest side of your house, and grow your grapes up the sides and over the top. This will give them plenty of heat and you a cooler space for dinners and sunsets beneath!

Add an evergreen screen of arborvitae on the north side of your home to block winter winds which make your heating system work harder. These plants can grow up to 3' per year. Plant them at least 10 feet from your home.

To make a bathroom sing, add an antique stained glass window to your window. No window? Hang LED Christmas lights behind it! This is also a cool trick to use behind a mirror. It'll make your bathroom feel super modern. If you use colored lights, make sure to pick a color that will accentuate your existing color scheme.

Use 12 plants per 1000 SF to recycle your entire home's air in 24 hours. Plants can remove toxic chemicals from the air, including formaldehyde, benzene, and carbon monoxide. The best plants include Bamboo Palm, Chinese Evergreen, English Ivy, Gerbera Daisy, Janet Craig Dracaena, Dracaena Marginata, Dracaena Massangeana/Corn plant, Mother-in-Law's Tongue, Chrysantheiums, Peace Lily, and Dracaena “Warneckii”

Plant walking thymes between pavers so you don't have to deal with weeds, and get a bonus of great herbs!

Til recently, your baseboard radiators were just going to run when they ran. No mas! Programmable thermostats are now available for baseboard heat!

If you'd like to make your landscaping work for your energy savings, place at least 2 @ 10' tall deciduous trees 6-10' from the building on the southwest side or corner of the house. An evergreen or deciduous tree on the southeast corner will also help if you have hot mornings. Fill the space below with smaller deciduous and evergreen shrubs, plants, and small trees. This will prevent the ground from reflecting heat back up under your eaves, will provide shade, and will help cool the space around your house through evaporation. Many flowering plants that need heat to flower will love these places. (Northern hemisphere only, if in the Southern hemisphere, reverse this and locate the trees on the Northwest corner.) Just remember not to plant a tree within 5' of the edge of the building, nor plants within 2'.

Install a rainbarrel! Rainbarrels are a popular way to start harvesting your rainwater now, especially in urban areas! They are relatively inexpensive and can be installed along the side of your home, under a deck, or in other unused spaces.

Do you have an extra $5 per month and really want to change the way utility companies do business? Go to the DOE Can I Buy Green Power in My State? Website at http://apps3.eere.energy.gov/greenpower/buying/buying_power.shtml and then call your utility company and switch to green power. It will take you less than 10 minutes, and for an extra few bucks a month, you'll be putting your utility company on notice that you want better practices out of them.

Run your appliances – especially dishwashers and laundry – in the late evening when peak load is minimized and the electric company is producing more power than it needs.

Cedar Resin

Turpentine Balsam:
Pine Nut Oil with
Pine Resin

This unique balsam effectively copes with the majority of gastrointestinal diseases, quickly heals wounds and sores, aids in cases of colds, calms the heart and nerves, and increases vitality. It is a wonderful product for skin care.

Composition: "Cedar resin in cedar nut oil" contains 3% cedar resin dissolved in natural cedar nut oil.

Indications for use: diseases of the skin, the gastrointestinal tract, nervous system, and locomotor system, and bronchopulmonary diseases.

Contraindications: individual intolerance.

"Siberian Cleanse"

This unique system for the restoration of the body was imparted to a woman by a female Siberian shaman many years ago. She said, "If you do this every year, you will never grow old." To what extent this is true is complicated for us to judge at the present. But we can tell you what happens in the human body when resin is ingested.

Over the course of your life you have most probably been on some fashionable diets or specialized cleanses. And you know very well that this was "not your thing"! To do this, you need both the appropriate mood and desire. But what do you do when the mood is not there? Can a method of cleansing be used to achieve the advertised result without any strain? You will probably laugh, but such a method exists, and it is provided by this very same turpentine balsam.

The "Siberian cleanse" is very simple and, unlike other cleanses, does not cause stressful situations for the body. Gently and slowly, including the process of cleansing and improvement on the cellular level, a person's chromosomal chain begins to be restored! Such a deep effect is rarely achieved with the use of complicated special homeopathic systems of healing.

When you begin to drink turpentine, your immunity increases, since resin is a most powerful antiseptic. The blood shows an increase in the content of phagocytes, which destroy viruses, parasites, and foreign pathogens. The result is the release of the energy potential that previously protected the life of these bacteria and parasites. All the glands and organs of our body begin to work more intensively and more effectively.

Further, the cells of all the body's tissues begin to regenerate, that is, there is a cleansing of all the old material (residue) that the cells could not get rid of earlier. At this moment, the exacerbation of some "old" internal disease is possible. For that reason, in this situation you need to get a sense of yourself: if you begin to feel extremely unwell, then the cleanse must be stopped and begun anew after a couple of months. The second time, the cleanse will proceed much more easily. During the cleanse, there will be a cleansing of the liver and blood vessels, which become more elastic, as a result of which for many people the self-regulation of blood pressure will be restored. There is a complete recovery from cholecystitis, colitis, enterocolitis, hepatitis, gastritis, and ulcers of the stomach and intestine, the microflora of the intestine is restored, and regulation of the metabolism occurs. The general tonus increases, and the person's energy becomes greater.

The sole condition for the effectiveness of the "Siberian cleanse" is this: it is essential to consume more fresh food of plant origin and to lower, preferably to omit entirely the consumption of food from slaughtered animals. When discarding residues, cells should instead receive healthy and pure materials for their renewal and new development. And then, with the aim of the complete improvement of the body, you are entirely able to tolerate two months without the consumption of meat. Whether you allow your body to continue to suffer all depends on how much you truly love yourself.

DIRECTIONS

The first day, early in the morning on an empty stomach, take 5 grams (1 teaspoon) of cedar resin, following which you must not eat or drink for 30 minutes. If you cannot tolerate the bitter taste, you can take it with water. Over the course of ten days, increase the quantity of cedar resin to 15 grams (1 tablespoon) as follows: during the first three days take 5 grams daily, during the second three days take 10 grams (2 teaspoons) daily, and during the remaining four days take 15 grams each morning 30 minutes before eating.

During the next 10 days, take 1 tablespoon of cedar resin with cedar nut oil in the morning 30 minutes before eating, and 1 tablespoon at lunchtime, 30 minutes before eating. During the following 10 days, take 1 tablespoon of cedar resin with cedar nut oil in the morning 30 minutes before eating, 1 tablespoon at lunchtime, 30 minutes before eating, and 1 tablespoon at suppertime, 30 minutes before eating.

After thirty days, the first half of the course of treatment has been completed. During the next thirty days, take cedar resin with cedar nut oil, reducing the dose. In the first ten days of the second half of the course of treatment, take 2 tablespoons of cedar resin with cedar nut oil per day, 1 tablespoon in the morning and 1 tablespoon at lunchtime. In the next ten days take 1 tablespoon of cedar resin with cedar nut oil in the morning 30 minutes before eating.

During the final ten days, for four days take 1 tablespoon of cedar resin with cedar nut oil in the morning 30 minutes before eating, in the next three days take 2 teaspoons in the morning 30 minutes before eating, and during the final three days take 1 teaspoon in the morning 30 minutes before eating.

In total, the course of treatment is 60 days in duration. The dosage is calculated for a person of average build.

In order to consolidate the results, the course of treatment may be repeated in two months. It is recommended to take the treatment twice a year, in the autumn and spring.

Baths and Soaks

Siberian Cedar Cone

Haven't you ever wondered why Russian beauties are always so ravishing and amazing? You see, this is all because their grandmothers and grandfathers, great-grandmothers and great-grandfathers constantly bathed in rivers and lakes that contained all the dissolved substances that were beneficial for their health and beauty: minerals brought by springs from secret caves; rains that bring ozone and free oxygen from the upper layers of the atmosphere; pollen, petals, and flowerheads that fall into the water from an infinite number of various flowers and plants; and the fruit, leaves, branches, and trunks of mighty trees, which have absorbed an enormous quantity of energy over many years.

Today, nothing prevents us from arranging, even on a daily basis, exactly the same type of bathing for ourselves, for our loved one, and from the bath obtaining an unbelievable return in energy, the strength that good health brings, and a ton of delightful pleasure when your body begins to transform itself into a song of amazing beauty....

Run a full bath of warm water (38-40C). Add 15-30 grams (2 tablespoons) of 3% turpentine balsam. Mix it throughout the water, and immerse your divine body into this artificial cedar lake. If you feel a chill, make the water warmer, but do not get carried away -- the bath should be pleasant and comfortable, but not hot. The most important thing is that you should not be cold. If for some reason you cannot take a bath, you can make a bath like this only for your legs. Only in this case, it is essential to make the water cooler, 34-35C. Nothing prevents you from using other salts or herbs together with the turpentine balsam. This will only intensify the effect.

When preparing a steam bath for the face, add 1 tablespoon of 3% turpentine balsam to the hot water. Cover your head with a thick towel and take the bath for 5 to 7 minutes. Be sure to close your eyes!

A bath has a wonderful therapeutic effect in insomnia, increased nervous excitability, as well as in skin diseases, abscesses, gout, rheumatism, sciatica, acute respiratory diseases, asthma, and lung diseases. A bath tones and strengthens the heart and nervous system, assists in the restoration of strength in recovering patients. A bath can also be used by healthy people as a means of maintaining their forces.

Cedar nut oil prevents the loss of moisture by the skin and strengthens the natural lipid barrier. Resin accelerates and restores the function of intercellular interaction and accelerates cellular metabolism tenfold. Both of these cedar components are perfectly absorbed by the skin, do not provoke allergic reactions, and because of this, turpentine balsam may be used by children and people with sensitive skin. Balsam supplies the skin with energy, the life force, and "building blocks" in the form of vitamins. The skin is restored and becomes smooth, soft, supple, and pleasant to the touch. And the face acquires a tender, natural blush.

By the way, for your information: for many who dream of an instantaneous result from these preparations or others, turpentine balsam provides an effect in the form of a pleasant warmth practically immediately, and the feeling of having a "new face" after even two to three procedures! And note, completely naturally -- without chemicals or any other artificial garbage!

Cedar balsam is also very simple to use: it is sufficient to wash your face well and, with circular movements, rub several drops of 3% turpentine into the skin until it is fully absorbed. This procedure may be done in the evening, for the night. What is even better is in the morning, to provide your skin with natural protection for the entire day!

Once a week, on Saturday, for example, a mask may be done for the face: take a handful of peeled cedar nuts, grind them to the consistency of a paste, add 2 tablespoons of honey and 2 tablespoons of 3% turpentine balsam and mix. Using circular motions, place a small quantity on your face and let it dry for 4 to 5 minutes, wipe it off with a tissue and rinse your face by splashing water on it (from 30 to 50 times). If you do not have cedar nuts on hand, then turpentine balsam should be applied to clean skin according to the standard cosmetic routine in the form of warm oil compresses on the area of the neck and face for 5 to 7 minutes, two to three times a week. Even after two to three procedures you will feel the effect from the application of the cedar balsam.

Delicate and Seductive Lips

The lips are one of the most expressive features of the face. Velvety lips emphasize the uniqueness of a smile and the enigmatic nature of a look. The lips are extremely sensitive, thanks to their great number of nerve endings. They have no sebaceous glands or melanin, and the epidermis in the tissues of the lips is extremely thin, and has an incomplete set of layers. For these reasons, the lips have always been noted for their particular dryness and the pigmentation that is unusual for skin. Lips are vulnerable to seasonal changes in the weather, they are subject to a great deal of wear and tear in daily life: they actively participate in conversations and in the processes of eating and drinking. For lips to remain young, smooth, and glistening, they must be cared for daily. Each day, using a soft, moistened toothbrush, massage your lips with circular motions for a minute. This will increase their elasticity, and will also help to remove dried particles. Then rub 1 to 2 drops of 3% turpentine balsam into your lips. Once a week, apply a layer of a mixture of honey with 3% turpentine balsam (1:1) to your lips, and leave it for 15 to 20 minutes. Then the mixture may be either washed off with water, or simply "eaten," since honey and 3% turpentine is very good for the health. Rich in vitamins A and E, turpentine balsam prevents peeling and the appearance of fine cracks in the lips, spares them from the "chewed areas" in the corners of the mouth. In moistening the lips, balsam makes them soft, natural, and attractive. Turpentine does not present an obstacle for esthetic cosmetics. It is fully absorbed into the lips over 5 to 10 minutes, and you can freely apply lipstick, it will not smear and will not begin to run.

REPORT

Of a Clinical Trial of
Siberian Pine Nut Oil Super Food
Bearing the Ringing Cedars of Russia Trademark
in the comprehensive therapy of digestive,
stomach, and intestinal disorders

Pine Nut Oil Super Food: A lack of observance of food hygiene (a disruption of the schedule and quality of nutrition) exerts the most immediate and at the same time undesirable influence on the system of the digestive organs, and first and foremost on the functioning of digestion, the stomach, and the duodenum. Ranking first must be such a negative factor as overeating, which, even in the case where it is well tolerated over a long period of time, in the end always provokes stomach upset. In the beginning, these disruptions are primarily functional and curable in the early stages. However, the real threat to health arises when metabolic disorders (obesity, diabetes mellitus, gout, and others) are added, and a metabolic syndrome develops.

Second, yet another of the reasons for the dysfunction of the organs of the digestive system is the deviation of the actual diet from the recommended balanced standards: insufficient consumption of fresh vegetables and fruits, super foods, products of animal origin, excessive consumption of carbohydrates, poor knowledge in matters of the proper structure of the food allowance, carelessness in eating (eating on the run, while on public transport, primarily "fast food" products), following "trendy" and often "extreme" diets.

Third, together with this in modern conditions an increasingly greater significance is acquired by a group of objective reasons. Among them an essential role is played by the significant increase in the use of refined, high-calorie products (white bread, margarines, and others), which are practically devoid of vitamins and other irreplaceable super food substances.

As a result of these tendencies, the food allowance of the modern person, sufficient (and even excessive) to cover expenditures of energy, turns out to be unable to provide for the recommended standards for the consumption of super food. This creates conditions for the occurrence of cases of polyhypoavitaminosis, that is, conditions where a deficit of several vitamins gradually occurs. Clinically this may manifest itself in the development of the syndrome of functional dyspepsia. In the structure of disorders of the digestive organs, functional upsets occupy one of the central areas, and are responsible for approximately 25 to 30% of the cases (Frolkis, 1991). They are characterized by a variety of clinical symptoms, lengthy duration, and quite often manifest themselves with diverse painful sensations (Ivashkin, Trukhmanov, 2000). These conditions usually lead to a worsening of patients' quality of life, and the therapeutic measures carried out prove to have little effect. In addition, against this background, the risk of the development of an organic pathology substantially increases (Frolkis, 2000). Modern medicine has in its arsenal various methods of treatment, and a central place among them is occupied by drug therapy. A huge spectrum of pharmaceutical preparations is a sufficient guarantee for effective treatment, however it should be admitted that, in real life, confirmation of this is far from always being found. The lengthy period of treatment with drugs quite often becomes the cause of the development of various complications. However, there exist other principles and methods, which, while a important component of modern medicine, have not been developed as they should be. These are non-medicinal methods of action for the treatment and prevention of illnesses. Together with this, non-medical methods of treatment are an effective means of increasing the protective and adaptive mechanisms, training the adaptational systems, restoring disruptions of the body's functions by acting on metabolic processes, the vegetative nervous and endocrine systems, and the external regulatory centres of the nervous system (Kuimov et al., 2007). With this in mind, wide use may be found for the biologically active super food Siberian Pine Nut Oil, which possesses a high therapeutic activity in inflammations of various origins (Filchenko et al., 1993).

The biologically active super food Siberian Pine Nut Oil produced under the Ringing Cedars of Russia trademark is a natural super food product that is a naturally occurring concentrated source of vitamin E, and also contains a large quantity of polyunsaturated fatty acids (linoleic, oleic, and others), which are not synthesized in the human body and may enter the body only with food. The composition of Siberian Pine Nut Oil includes a significant quantity of B group vitamins: B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (vitamin PP), which exhibit high physiological activity.

Pine Nut Oil with Sea Buckthorn

The biologically active super food Siberian Pine Nut Oil produced under the Ringing Cedars of Russia trademark is a super food which contains phosphatide phosphorus, which is very important for the body. Its biological value is also determined by its high content (more than 20) of vitally important trace elements: potassium, magnesium, manganese, calcium, copper, cobalt, zinc, iodine, nickel, molybdenum, iron, and others. It also contains up to 5% nitrous substances, of which 90% are amino acids, primarily essential amino acids (up to 70%).

The purpose of this paper was the study of the effectiveness of using the biologically active super food Siberian Pine Nut Oil produced under the Ringing Cedars of Russia trademark in the comprehensive treatment of patients with a pathology of the digestive organs and its influence on their quality of life.

The clinical trial was conducted in a random population group in outpatient conditions. In total, 22 persons from 20 to 52 years of age (the average age was 37.2 +/- 2.4 years) were included in the trial. The persons studied belonged to the category of students (5 persons) and employed persons (17 persons). All of the persons observed had a pathology of the digestive organs. Gastroesophageal reflux disease was observed in 8 persons; erosive gastroduodenitis, in 9 persons; peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum, in 4 persons; and postoperative stomach disease, in 1 person.

The study was conducted in accordance with the "Rules for clinical practice in the Russian Federation," which were approved by Order No. 266 of the Ministry of Health. Each patient observed signed an informed consent form. The patients were observed at the stage of an exacerbation of their disorder and received basic treatment for their primary illness (proton pump inhibitors, cholinolytics, antacids, prokinetics). Siberian Pine Nut Oil produced under the Ringing Cedars of Russia trademark was included in the comprehensive treatment for all patients, one teaspoon to be taken 30 minutes before eating three times a day. The course of treatment was 20 days. The oil of Siberian Pine nuts bearing the Ringing Cedars of Russia trademark has a certificate of quality and safety, which is confirmed by Certificate of Conformity No. ROSS RU.AYa79.V05813, issued by the Novosibirsk Centre for Product Certification and Quality Monitoring (Test Report No. 1163 dated 19 March 2007). The oil of Siberian Pine nuts is a thick, transparent liquid, light yellow or golden amber in colour, with a nutty aroma.

For the evaluation of the criteria of the effectiveness of Pine Nut Oil of Ringing Cedars of Russia Trademark, a standard questionnaire for the evaluation of the quality of life was used -the Nottingham Health Profile, which evaluates the most significant parameters that describe a person's quality of life: energy level, pain, emotional reactions, sleep, social isolation, and physical abilities. All patients were surveyed prior to beginning taking the preparations and after 20 days.

Following the appearance of disease, in persons 20 years of age in the group under study (5 persons), the lowering of the quality of life indicators was minimal. Following the course of treatment with Siberian Pine Nut Oil bearing the Ringing Cedars of Russia trademark, a reliable improvement was noted (P<0.05-0.02), as was the full restoration of the evaluated quality of life parameters. There was practically a complete restoration of such parameters such as emotional reactions, energy level, and physical abilities.

Following the appearance of disease in persons in the older age groups (17 persons from 31 to 52 years of age), the lowering of the quality of life indicators was more significant. However, on the completion of the course of treatment with Siberian Pine Nut Oil bearing the Ringing Cedars of Russia trademark, a significant and reliable improvement (P<0.001-0.05) was noted in the quality of life indicators.

As a whole, in the entire group of persons studied, the most noticeable improvement was observed in the improvement of emotional reactions and what was especially remarkable, a restoration of sleep was noted (see the Table). In addition, according to the results of the FGS conducted, a reduction of inflammatory elements in the stomach mucosa and the duodenum was noted, as was the healing of ulcers and erosions in the stomach.

Pine Nut Oil Press
This equipment and method of pressing Siberian Pine Nuts brings the difference in the quality of "RINGING CEDARS OF RUSSIA" Siberian Pine Nut Oil

The brand name "THE RINGING CEDARS OF RUSSIA" stands for business integrity, decency and the highest possible quality of product. All products marketed under this brand name convey the primordial power of Nature and the warmth of our hearts. We offer:

A variety of high-quality cedar products, including cedar nuts and cedar nut oil.

Huge plantations of cedar trees grow in the Siberian taiga, said to be the ecologically purest area of the world. The virgin forest of the taiga has never been treated with any chemicals or artificial fertilisation, nor abused by agricultural machines.

Cedar nuts (the seeds of the cedar tree) take two years to mature, during which time the tree accumulates a huge volume of positive cosmic energy. Crops of nuts are harvested manually by people lovingly devoted to this task, working in a pleasant environment without undue haste to create unique products full of positive energy reflecting the infinite powers of Nature. Specific preparations include:

We pick only cedar cones which fall naturally from the trees, thus ensuring that only ripe cones are selected. We always avoid hitting the trees to shake unripe cedar cones down (as happens with some other commercial operations) -- a practice which causes the nuts to lose their healing power.

Cones are then manually shelled with the help of wooden shell-removers. Nut centres are separated from their shells using wooden rollers.

Cedar nut oil and cedar nut flour marketed under our brand name are obtained by the cold-pressure method, using manual wooden oil-presses.

Cedar nut oil is then stored in special containers and packed in a small village near Novosibirsk by name "Kandayrovo" using unique technology to avoid any contact with metal. The whole process is strictly supervised to ensure it complies with all sanitary requirements.

Final products are placed in special packaging to prevent daylight penetration, and stored at a temperature of 0C to +5C to better preserve the product's natural components. The resulting product is a bright gold-coloured liquid with the pleasant smell of cedar nuts. It is a 100% natural product with strong healing powers.

SIBERIAN PINE NUT OIL

Siberian Pine nuts (cedar nuts) contain about 60% oil. They are therefore pressed to obtain Pine nut oil, which is available on the market as a very expensive gourmet cooking oil. Cold pressing in all-wooden presses is preferred to retain the nutritional properties of nuts and derive the oil of highest quality.

The Pine nut oil bearing "The Ringing Cedars of Russia" brand comes exclusively from wild-harvested Siberian Pine nuts - one of the most nutritious Pine nuts in the world. In comparison, other Pine nut oils are usually pressed from the Italian pignolia Pine nuts, which are not nearly as potent and are often harvested from trees growing in plantations. Our Siberian Pine nut oil is extra virgin (100% cold pressed from freshly shelled raw Siberian Pine nuts), whereas most Pine nut oils on the market are either not cold pressed or even pressed from roasted (!) Pine nuts, which significantly decreases the oil value. Finally, "The Ringing Cedars of Russia" Siberian Pine nut oil is the only one which is available on the market anywhere in the world pressed with wooden presses in accordance with traditional techniques described in Vladimir Megre's life-changing book "The Ringing Cedars of Russia". In contrast, all other Pine nut oils are pressed using steel presses, which immediately degrades them (contact with steel oxidizes some of the Pine nut oil's most important ingredients such as vitamins, and is known to remove the 'life force' from the oil).

Pine nut oil has also traditionally been used in ancient Russian and European natural medicine to cure a wide array of ailments - ingested (decreasing blood pressure, boosting immune system resistance, etc.) or applied externally (a range of dermatological disorders). It is also used in expensive cosmetics.

Pine nut oil contains pinolenic acid, a polyunsaturated fatty acid, and is marketed in the U.S. as a means stimulate cell proliferation, prevent hypertension, decrease blood lipid and blood sugar, and inhibit allergic reactions.

Pine Nut Oil Tzatziki

Ingredients: 500 grams (1/2 quart) of Greek yoghurt (or natural full, dairy yoghurt), Three garlic cloves, 1/2 cup of pine nut oil, 1/2 sliced cucumber.

Put the yoghurt in a bowl. Put the garlic through a garlic press and using the edge of a knife, spread the garlic coming our of the press on the yoghurt. Take the cucumber and peal the skin. Slice it thinly, either with a knife or using a salad slicer. Mix the ingredients with a mixer (or a fork) and slowly add the oil. The oil will be absorbed, and when it is done, the tzatzki is ready. Serve with a spoon and a few olives spread on the top. Tzatziki is eaten with plenty of french bread.

History of Aromatherapy

For millenniums humanity has been discovering mysterious properties of plants. Knowledge obtained through experiments and researches and its systematization resulted in a new science - Aromatherapy.

Aromatherapy is an art of healing by means of plant aromas. Aromatherapy emerged long before it was thought as a science. Have you noticed how easily you breathe when you are walking in a forest? How nice it is to feel piny wood scent and redolence of green pine needles and resin! This is a natural aromatherapy.

According to the first manuscripts with fragrance recipes aromatherapy has been used for 6000 years! In Egypt the use of aromatherapy is confirmed by earthenware tablets that described embalming process by means of aromatics.

Ancient people perfectly understood aromatic and therapeutic properties of plants. Contemporary civilization just begins to uncover the value of aromatherapy hidden treasures.

In the ancient times aromatic, antiseptic, antimicrobial and wound-healing properties of essential-oil plants were known and widely used from Babylon and Persia to India and China. In the old medical texts of these countries, written around 3000 years ago, many herbs and their utilization were described. Plants whose aromas were able to impact on consciousness were burned during religious ceremonies.

The resins that were used for incense were highly therapeutic; they influenced on respiratory system and immersed priests into meditative state. Egyptians applied fragrances from perfumery and cosmetics to medicine and mummification. Some perfume jars still smell with fragrance that was kept there 3200 years ago. Also Egyptians used aromas for skin care, washing clothes, added them into vine and food. Frankincense oil used to be burned in honor of Egyptian God Ra, it also was a great component in skin care recipes. Cedar and Myrrh oils were used for embalming. As it turned out essential oils of cedar and myrrh contained elements with strong prophylactic and antiseptic properties, which allowed mummies be preserved for a very long time. Egyptians acquired a reputation of perfume experts; however, they were not familiar with essential oil extraction methods and used only infusions and ointments.

Greeks continued researches in aromatherapy. They found new uses for essential oils in medicine. Ancient thinker and pharmacologist Pedanius Dioscorides wrote a book about healing with herbs "De Materia Medica". This book had been very popular in Europe for 12 centuries. Many recipes offered in this book are still useful today. Another Greek physician Hippocrates - the founder of contemporary scientific medicine composed a work where 236 plants and their medical use were described. Reflecting Greek philosophy of his time, Hippocrates approached patient as a unified whole and as a part of nature. He believed that plants contain medical elements in optimal combination and thus they heal better when unprocessed or as natural juices.

Romans based their knowledge on Greeks' aromatherapy achievements. Their innovation was in bringing aromatic plants and ingredients from Aravia and Eastern India. With new plants more deceases could be cured. Romans paid a lot of attention to the aromatic properties of plants. In antique Rome and Greece perfumery with floral scents was booming, the essential oils were widely used in steam baths as a daily ritual. Many Greek doctors served in Roman army and carried their aromatherapy knowledge through different countries. Ancient Greek philosophers believed that essential oils were given to people by Olympus Gods as a means of supreme light, awakening love.

After the collapse of Roman Empire, Arabic perfumers improved aromatherapy knowledge. They were the first who applied steam distillation for extracting essential oil from rose petals. This invention is believed to belong to Avicenna, philosopher and a physician of Middle East. He described more than 800 medical means that were mostly of botanical origin. In his book "The Canon of Medicine" he described steam distillation method which is used nowadays as well.

European aromatherapy was developing in medieval times. During crusades Arabic fragrances were spread over entire Europe. Plant's medical properties were intensively studied at the times of pestilence spread. Branches of lavender and cypress were burned on the streets. It was the only protection against Black Death that people knew.

In the ninetieth century with the development of synthetic pharmacology the importance of aromatherapy began to decrease. However, when it was noticed that synthetic products caused multiple complications the interest in aromatherapy arose again.

In 1930, French scientist-chemist Rene-Maurice Gattefosse put into practice a term of Aromatherapy. His family owned a perfumery fabric, and, according to the legend, Maurice, working in a laboratory, burned his hand badly. By reflex, he dipped his hand into lavender oil that was standing by. Later he was so amazed watching mystical recovery and disappearance of scars on his hand. As a result he dedicated his live to researches about essential oil cosmetic and dermatological properties.

French physician Jean Valnet significantly expanded uses of aromatherapy. He was using essential oils for disinfection of wounds and for internal organs spasms relieving. In 1964 he published a book "Practice of Aromatherapy" triggering the aromatherapy practice in Europe. Homeopathic clinics, practicing aromatherapy were build in Paris, Sveden and England where obvious rejuvenation properties of essential oils were studied.

Contemporary aromatherapy is first of all a prophylactic and healthful method of maintaining good psycho-emotional and physical fitness. It is a therapy that relieves everyday stress and prevents development of infirmity. In Canada, US, Europe and Japan thousands of aromatherapy clinics operate, aromatherapy books are published and scientific laboratories are working, continuing the tradition of aromatherapy use.

With the growing popularity of aromatherapy many people get familiarized with therapeutic properties of essential oils and start using them at home on a daily basis.

On the current market the world leading Essential Oil company is Young Living Essential Oils. Young Living's line of pure, therapeutic-grade essential oils and essential oil blends are sourced from the world's finest plants.
