Garden of Eden in the Siberian taiga: kin's domain of Denis Safronov

Everyone who lives in the kin’s domain dreams of creating the most beautiful and flourishing Space of Love. Is it necessary to live in warm regions, where the soil is fertile and the number of sunny days is very large? Experience shows that this is not a necessary condition for creating a flourishing and fruitful kin’s domain. We have already told you the story of the «Northern Lights» kin’s domain, and today we want to share the experience of Denis Safronov.

Denis grew a garden with fruit, berry, and ornamental trees in the Siberian taiga, in the south of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. The Safronov kin’s domain is located in an area where there used to be a dense forest; it is almost 3800 square meters! Denis left all the cedars that grew on this territory, but he had to cut down and uproot all the birches to make room for the garden. Today pears, plums, cherries, quinces, blueberries, strawberries, and dozens of other trees and bushes grow here. Denis even managed to grow 4 varieties of grapes, although most people are sure that grapes cannot survive in such a climate! Denis does not use any chemical fertilizers and, in principle, does not treat the plants. His task is to create ideal conditions for a particular plant and wait till the tree bears fruit. The Safronov family is sure that the fruits from their plot are many times tastier, more aromatic, and healthier than those bought in a store.

The Safronov kin’s domain is located on a slope. Denis used the landscape of the area to his advantage: the site seems to be divided into terraces, and multi-tiered plantings are also used here. The close proximity of plants of different heights helps create a unique microclimate and protect the plantings from the wind. In addition, Denis takes into account the root system of trees that can both support neighboring plants and “compete” with them. He also plants a lot of «ground covers» — these are plants that can cover large areas, thereby protecting the soil and acting as mulch. One of Denis’s favorite plants of this type is strawberries. Not only is it useful for caring for other plants, but it also produces delicious berries!

For the Safronov family, both benefit and beauty are equally important, so in addition to fruit trees and bushes, there are a lot of ornamental plants on the site. “In my opinion, the garden is a Place of Power. It gives us both impressions and nutrition. The garden makes us stronger, it is a source of energy - both material and mental,” says Denis.
